2-Year Old Pollen Allergy
My son is having a severe pollen allergy - swollen eyes, itchy, rash, running nose, etc. We've kept him in as much as possible. I've been giving him benadryl every 4-6 hours, otherwise he'll keep scratching - the rash keeps growing! Just looking to commiserate with others who have allergy sufferers - any advice?

Re: 2-Year Old Pollen Allergy
I wrote this exact post yesterday. DS is going to be 3 next month and Monday morning woke up and he couldn't open his eyes. They were so swollen and red He also is red and itchy. Eczema all over too. He can't stop scratching! I feel so bad! The Ped gave us eye drops and said to also buy some type of "real" tears eye drops too. It should wash out the guck in his eyes so he stops waking up with them swollen. Although try giving a toddler drops is impossible. I don't even know if any gets in. I also been using a steriod cream for the rash and eczema along with an anti itch cream. Seems to help a bit Benadryl only knocks him out and when he wakes up he is still terrible. I just started him on Children's Allegra per the Ped. I know it takes a few to build up so we'll see. If that doesn't work they said try the Children's Claritin. He's worse in the mornings. We also try and keep him in, but not so easy either. Hope he feels better and I hope my DS feels better soon too!

Re: 2-Year Old Pollen Allergy
Thanks, I'm glad to hear he's not the only one suffering out there! He looks so drugged with all the benadryl but nothing is stopping the itching. The ped said we need to stop the cycle, which is why I keep giving it to him (it breaks my heart!). DH is home with him today and said he seems a little better and gave him claritin instead of benadryl. I cleaned everything in the apartment yesterday and used the a/c, I was shocked that even last night he was still symptomatic. I'm exhausted and feel so sad for him.

Yes! Last night DS seemed a bit better then woke up this morning all red and congested again. I tried the Allegra, but hope it works soon. Maybe the Clariten is better?! Ugh! I wish I knew what would work best for him.

Re: 2-Year Old Pollen Allergy
I gave him Claritin yesterday morning at around 7AM, which is 24-hours. At 11AM - I called the ped because he just kept scratching his eyes, head, back, belly - it's crazy! That's when she said to just keep doing the benadryl - which also barely takes the itch away. I feel like I'm going crazy, maybe I should try Zyrtec or Allegra or just give it time. I also have generic benadryl - I may pick up the brand name during lunch, I'll try anything (and I hate using meds on him - urgh!).
