20 Glue Sticks!!!!
That's what is on Jaidy's kindergarten supply list!!! WTH are they going to be gluing?
Am I nuts to think this is excessive?

When we were kids, we had to buy our own school supplies...notebooks, folders, etc and that was that. Now, we're responsible for paper towels, baby wipes, reams of copy paper, fifty million glues sticks... Times have changed!

Isn't it nuts? Our list has 15 large glue sticks. I wonder what they do with it all. I looked around and got a good deal on Amazon. From next yr they will need the Jumbo ones-and they are 3$ each

We need 18 large (.77oz) glue sticks for 1st grade! I assuming that those who need less will be asked again midyear for more.

That is totally ridiculous. My kids never used more than maybe 4 or 5 glue sticks in a year. 20???? that is insane.

We have 8 jumbo for 1st grade...but glue sticks go fast...20 doesn't surprise me. Plus kindergarteners destroy glue sticks when using them and more glue gets on the table than the paper.
Cutting and pasting is done so much. They are building fine motor skills, but also good for practicing putting events in order and putting things in categories.

a few art projects is all that a glue stick lasts for. Esp with the younger kids who are still learning how to use glue sticks.

I asked for 20 when I taught K. 
They forget to cap them frequently so a lot goes to waste, and some kids bare down REALLY hard and use half a stick to glue one thing. Those 20 will be long gone before June.

I agree w/ Patsbrat. As a PK teacher, we actually supply the gluesticks, but my prinicpal doesn't get that we always need more by Christmas.
The kids are just learning to use the glue & press way too hard; roll them up too far; leave the caps off & they go really fast.
20 is actually a lot though. As a teacher I'd probably ask for 10 upfront & then ask again when we were running low.
My kids generally go through about 8-10 sticks a year--but then again it's PK & I would guess it's a lot more crafts than in K!

I think it is better to buy it now then to have to pay full price later in the year. Walmart had a really good deal on glue sticks last week.

for K, we we needed 8 but we were asked for 6 more twice during the year so we ended up doing 20 total

I never asked for so many! 4 each child times 20ish kids is like 80! I always taught the kids how to work with glue sticks and I still thought they were eating them  but we sometimes asked for more, but I never thought it ended up 20 each..wow!
