20 week anatomy scan
My doctor has me get this done at Katz, and the only day they have a time convenient for me and DH would put me at 21w3d. They said I have up to 22 weeks to get the test. Any cons to this other than just my pure impatience?

20 week anatomy scan
Only thing I can remember is I had to go back a 2nd time because they couldn't get something that the needed due to the babies position and everything we tried to move him didn't work. so if they need you to come back maybe the times aren't the greatest again for you?

Re: 20 week anatomy scan
the only con I can think of is if they don't get all of the measurements they need at the first appointment you'll have to come back and that may not leave you much time.
I went for my anatomy scan 2 weeks ago and they couldn't get the spine measurement bc the baby was curled up and wouldn't move the way they needed.
I had to go back a week later and it took them less than 2 minutes to get the measurement they needed.
Just something to keep in mind.

i would add-if you have to go back for a 2nd appointment for measurements like we all stated; it's usually so quick you can probably just go on your own (if your schedule is more flexible). It's not really necessary for DH to be there too. Not as important as the full appointment the 1st time.

Those issues with measurements is why she won't let me schedule any earlier than the week before, though I know plenty of women who went at 18 weeks. So frustrated.

In may case; she just couldn't get the measurement based on the babies position. You might able to get everything you need in one shot. It didn't have anything to do with how far along I was and not being able to see everything because of the babies size. He just wasn't cooperating LOL

20 week anatomy scan
I had my anatomy scan done at 21 weeks and it was not an issue. The only thing I hated was that we had to wait an extra week to find out the sex.

The one I had around 18w was an early anatomy scan. I still had to go to the regular anatomy scan.

20 week anatomy scan
I had mine at 21+ and didn't have any trouble. Like you mentioned it was just annoying having to wait to find out the gender, we were so anxious by that point!

Re: 20 week anatomy scan
The wait from 12 to 20 week isn't as bad as from 20 week until growth sono, which isn't until 32 or 36 weeks normally.
Try calling hospital to see if they have another time. I ended up doing the same because they only had a time around 21 weeks, I called back a week or two later and they had an opening.

I did mine around then, and needed a 2nd appointment for a fetal echo...no problems.

My office doesn't do a growth sono so my anatomy scan was my last one! It's torture!!!! I have to wait till birth to see my little munchkin again!

Eek! I've heard of that too, but my obgyn told me that they will do one at 36 weeks. One of my friends got one at around 30 or 32 weeks and another one after that.

I think this happened with my bffs office too. Which surprised me because she was starting to get some complications at the end (bp skyrocketing, major swelling, pain, etc).

Yea I would have preferred to have one. I go for my 36 week appointment tomorrow so I'm gonna ask one final time to see what they say. It's probably too late at this point though. I feel like I missed out because they didn't estimate he size/weight for me (even though I know that is nowhere near fool proof). I guess if I would have had or if I do end up having any complications they will do one but of course that's not the circumstances I want to have one under. Hopefully these last few weeks fly by!

20 week anatomy scan
I had my anatomy scan at 18 weeks. They were able to obtain all the measurements necessary. My MFM specialist said the timing of the scan is often recommended at 20-22 weeks since the baby is bigger.

They didn't estimate the size and weight for me either. When I was in delivery the nurse estimated 8 lbs. he was 6lb 3oz!

Re: 20 week anatomy scan
I went at 18w at Katz. The only concern my dr had going that early is the heart might not be fully developed to see if there are any issues.
I think you'll be fine going a 21 w...other than being antsy....I know I would be too!!!
