20 weeks and bleeding - UPDATED

When I went to the bathroom this morning and I wiped, there was red blood on the toilet paper. No blood though in the toilet. I wiped again to be sure and there it was again. Not a lot, kind of like when your period is ending. Doctors office doesn't open till 9:30. What do you think it is? I don't have cramping, I felt a little sore down below my belly especially on the right side last night. I am freaking out with worry and can't stop crying. Has this happened to anyone else???

UPDATE - First of all, thank you all for your well wishes! It really gave me comfort because I have never felt so alone in my life. I went to my doctor and she did an internal and saw that ther was dark brown blood and discharge. She also said she felt the cervix was a little short and open (needless to say I started crying at this point). She said she wanted me to go get an ultrasounds ASAP. The Nurse called and was able to get me an appointment immediately so I sped all the way there (figures it would be raininga nd cold and miserable in Washington, DC today too. Ugh). The tech did an internal sonogram and I got to see the little person and hear the heart. She said the cervix looked long and closed (opposite what the doctor said) and the placenta looked good, amnio levels looked good, and no blood. WOO HOO!!! And the little guy had his fingers in his mouth and feet up in the air - NOT A CARE IN THE WORLD!!! now I am at home, laying on the sofa, drinking some hot tea and watching the Food Network! What a scare. I go back Monday for my full Level II. Really escited about that! Again THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for being there for me. You ladies are the best! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

AND I ALMOST FORGOT THE BEST PART... I gained another 8 stinking pounds in 4 weeks Chat Icon Oh well.. it's all for the baby! Have a great weekend!

Re: 20 weeks and bleeding - pls help

Try not to get too worked up.

You can start to bleed after sex, or even straining too much to go to the bathroom.

Just call the dr and I am sure they will be able to set your mind at ease.

PS, I bled around 24 weeks and I am now 34+ weeks with a VERY active baby!

Good Luck!Chat Icon

Don't worry. From what i hear, unless you're bleeding a lot, than it's no cause for concern. Many women experience some spotting during their pregnancy.

But to put your mind at ease, talk to the doctor and see what they say! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you ladies. I find such comfort in reading your replies. I called the doctor and I am going in at 2:00 today. Just sitting here staring off into space now. Too scared to go to the bathroom again. No cramping - thank God. Just a dull pain right below my belly on the left. I will let you all know how it goes. Thank you for your well wishes. It really means a lot to me. I want it all to be OK. Chat Icon

Did you poop? It could possibly be a hemmroid.

Try to relax and stay off your feet until you see your dr. Chat Icon

I'm sorry that you are going through this. Try to stay calm, it may be nothing! My friend was 20 weeks back in July and was bleeding a lot - more than her period she said. She went to the ER and they did tons of tests - echocardiogram, ultrasounds, etc. They found nothing wrong! They never figured out why it happened. The bleeding lasted for 3 days or so. Last week, at 39 weeks, she gave birth to a perfect Baby Girl! Chat Icon

Re: 20 weeks and bleeding - pls help

The very same thing happened to me at 17 weeks. My doctor had me come in right away for an internal exam and a sono. It turned out that everything was just fine so try not to worry so much! Chat Icon

Re: 20 weeks and bleeding - pls help

Please stay calm. I bled at 20 weeks also and when I went to the doctor they told me I had a low lying placenta that could have been moving up and thats what was causing the bleeding. I now have a healthy 7 month old baby girl. Good LuckChat Icon
