Re: 24 hours fever free to return to school?
It probably has to do with the timeframe of the child being contagious.

Yes, 24 hrs...I just went through this. DS had 101.5 2pm on a Tues but was fine the rest of the day, through the night and next morning. Nurse said 24 hr rule so I kept him home .

I'm not sure what you mean but you are contagious until you have been completely fever free (not on any fever reducing medications) for a full 24 hours.

I dont get this post at all. Are you saying 24-48 hrs is too short or too long? I mean JMHO....I think its pretty fair of the school to expect your child to be out at least 24 hrs.

I think they say this b.c I hear parents saying oh my DC had a fever until 2 yesterday - but they sent them in the next day to school when they should have waited until the following day which is tech more than 24 hours b.c the child would be contagious until 2pm that day.

Re: 24 hours fever free to return to school?
Personally even though it's an inconvinience for me ... I would rather my child stay home. My DD has asthma and she gets a common cold and ends up on prednisone and the nebulizer every 4 hours. What if she were the one to cause that in one of her friends? I'd rather have her home until she's had antibiotics in her system for 2 days to make sure that she is no longer contageous!
