**WE NEED TO GO BACK TO THE ER***Updated
Thank you all for your prayers, hugs and concern
All I can say is what a week. It all started on Tuesday when Hannah started vomiting. Wednesday she woke up looking better and asking to eat. She was able to hold down soup, toast and Pedialyte. I thought we were in the clear until she woke up Thursday with a 103 fever refusing to eat or drink anything. We went to the ped for an unrelated check up and I mentioned what was going on and how she was very lethargic, not eating or drinking. He said keep trying to get anything in her and check in the next day. Well as soon as we got out of the ped's office she started vomiting again. She was so weak, but the ped said she just needed to ride it out and keep trying to get some liquids in her. He told what signs to look for in case of dehydration and to check in again in the morning. Well that night I started vomiting as well. It was a nightmare. My DH took her to the ped on Friday and he told him to take her to ER. I, of course, had to be there sick or not. So he came and got me.
The ER was waiting for her and quickly started trying to draw blood and set up the IV drip. It took 2 hours for them to find a vain. That poor baby was stuck in both ankles, both arms and 5 fingers before they were done
We waited in a private room in the ER for the blood results. She had extremely low blood sugar, bicarbs (?), etc. so of course they admitted her. She was lifeless the entire day. I want to say she slept 20 of the 24 hour day, and 2 of those hours she was being pricked and prodded. It was so hard to see her so weak and limp.
Saturday she woke for a short time, played for about 10 minutes, refused food and drink, layed back down and took a 3 hour nap. She woke up from her nap a new baby. She was sitting and playing, despite having a high fever. No laughs or smiles, but an improvement. Since she still was running a fever, refused liquids and barely ate they said we had to stay another night.
Sunday she woke up very sad and limp again. Fever free, but refused all food and driink once again. She didn't want to play and quickly went back to sleep until 1pm. At 1 we got her up, took her off the IV, took her for a ride in a little wagon around the ward and shen finally ate a banana.
They felt she would do better at home. She wasn't vomiting and fever free so they released us. She's still far from herself and slept pretty much the entire day, but it's nice to be home. She's having some trouble walking and sitting up for long periods of time, but we're hoping lots of love, some food and drink will get her going. I'm taking the week off and hoping we see some improvement.
Thanks again for all your hugs...we're hoping we got that bug out of her and we're on the road to recovery.
Me...I'm just really tired, physically and emotionally. I'm eating, but still pretty queasy. I forgot how sick I was through the whole thing, but the pediatric nurses stayed on top of me to ensure I was eating, drinking and sleeping. They truly were wonderful!!
UPDATE: she woke up not herself again. Limp and lifeless. I took her to ped for a check up he's not thrilled - still mildly dehydrated and underweight, but he's hoping she needs more time. Welll she just started vomiting again
I knew she wasn't ready to be discharged. She may be going back. I think I'm going to have an emotional breakdown. I wish I lived in LI and had my mom to help. She may come later this week.
UPDATE #2: Well she's still vomiting and no wet diapers. The peditrican is sending her back to the ER for more IV. This poor baby I can't take it.
UPDATE #3: The ER was a nightmare. They couldn't find any good vains. They were all flat or pricked already from her first visit. They went through every single one before I screamed enough. They almost resorted to going in through her leg bone (called an IO or something like that). Fortunately one of the nurses called a neonatal surgeon and he was able to get in through her ankle. So she's all boarded up and can't use her leg, but it is what it is. Both my DH & I were crying. It took over 3 hours!!!
She woke up much better today. Far from herself, but the best I've seen her so far. She had some soup and Jello and so far it stayed in. We will definitely be here at least one more day. Just wanted to say thank you again for all your concern, prayers, hugs, and FM's!! I'll try to check in again later or tomorrow!!!

Oh Gosh! What a long weekend for you all. Glad Hannah is home and doing better. Its so hard to see your baby so sick. Take care of yourself too!
She will be back to herself and in time!

Thank you so much for posting an update. I am so happy that your little girl is home in your arms again...right where she belongs. And you are right...with all of your love she'll be back to her old self in no time.

I've been thinking about both of you all weekend. I'm glad she is on the mend, and I hope she is 100% herself tomorrow. Hopefully the rest of '08 is the year that Hannah is sick-free!!!!!
