2.5 year old waking/crying at night
DS woke up about an hour after he went to bed last night crying and calling for me. That never ever happens.
He was crying when we put him down (which also never happens) so I don't think that he ever fell asleep.
When I went into his room he was so upset, wanted to come into the living room and be with me and DH He had his loveys, so that wasn't the issue. We read him a book and spoke softly to him, calmed him down and he went down without a peep after that.
Assuming that he didn't fall asleep and have a nightmare... has anyone ever experienced this? He's always been an outstanding sleeper, I hope this isn't the start of night terrors or something like that.

John as you know is younger but has done that before wanting OUT OF HIS ROOM!! I don't know if we'll ever know the reason.....
Lately John has been giving us trouble going to bed too!!

Re: 2.5 year old waking/crying at night
LB we've had the same issue (infrequently, but there seems to be NO rhyme or reason to it!!!!) Occasionally he'll wake up SCREAMING for us and will not go back down until we come in his room. Usually that's *me* though cause DH just flat out SUCKS at "quiet time" he's either too cranky with the kid or too happy to see him so Shane thinks it's playtime!! I can't think of ANY pattern to it, he's not sick, no teething issues, no loud noises or anytihng.... So I'm thinking it is bad dreams or something??? We even went and bought the sound machine you recommended, thanks for nothing by the way
He's also an excellent sleeper, 13hours every night since he was a newborn! It's very very sporadic so we don't deal with this often but yeah it bites

Bleep you
This was the first time it has happened, ever! I was in shock and so upset because I think he'd been crying for a while but so quietly that I didn't hear him.
He sleeps very very well every night, so I am hoping this was a random fluke.

Yup! Happens to us randomly too. Sometimes it's only an hour or so after we put him down. Sometimes it's in the middle of the night.
If it's in the middle of the night, he usually gets himself back to bed.
I do think he's phasing out of naps. Because it's getting harder to put him down at night lately and I think part of his wakings are coming from not being "tired enough" you know?
This is my own seperate side rant at the pure devastation I feel over the fact that I may no longer have a napper. Carry on . . .
