I can't stop shaking... and crying...
I'm still hysterical crying writing this - thank God we are ok...
We live on a side street in Northport off a fairly busy road (Waterside Avenue) - I picked Cailen up from daycare and drove slowly the whole way home - it took a while, and the roads were so slippery...
I knew turning on my block (which was already covered in snow) was going to be bad, so I did it very slowly... as soon as I started going up the hill,. my car began skidding. I kept going up slowly, and then I wouldn't go up anymore... and started to go backwards... Nothing I did would stop the car - not the gas, the brake, anything...
all I could do was think of Cailen - and if we went back on Waterside, we would be hit, and his side would be hit first...
I began screaming (I know - so bad - but I was panicking - and he was fast asleep the whole time) and tried to think what I could do - I unbuckled my seat belt (so bad - I know, but all I could think was I would have to jump out of the car and get him out of his car seat - the car was moving slow enough..) and then I pulled on the emergency brake as a last chance, and thank God it worked... the car just stopped...
I sat in the car shaking so hard and hysterical crying... I didn't know what to do and I was so scared to move...
I finally just jammed on the gas with my foot ready to hit the brake, and somehow managed to get up...
I just got off the phone with DH - I thought I was calm about it but I began crying all over again...
what if something happened to my baby????

 thank goodness you are both okay. There is nothing scarier in the world when you have no control. Thank god for the emergency brake working.

OMg Liza thank god you guys are ok
that is a very steep hill by you, on a dry night I had to step on the gas to get up there.
I think I would have turned the car to go onto someones front lawn at least if the car is sideways with no gravity pull it may stop.
just thank god you both are ok

OMG. That is so scary. That is one of my biggest fears (an accident with DD in the car.) Have you ever heard the song "Jesus Take the Wheel"? I think it's by Carrie Underwood. Makes me want to cry every time I hear it.
Glad you're both ok.

I am glad you both are OK.
The roads around here are so bad in this weather. My mother just called and said there are cars skidding on Pulaski (which is flat in some areas and hilly in others). She was shaking too.
Everyone. Please be careful out there!
Liza. I am glad you both are OK. I definitley would have lost it.

A similar thing happened to me on the way home with my girls today. My car didn't stop and thanks to some quick maneuvering I *just* avoided an accident. So scary!
Thank God you had good presence of mind in that situation and thank God you're both safe!!!

OMG Liza!!! So glad you &  are ok. I can just guess which hill off Waterside too. (I grew up near there - in fact, if you stand on the corner of Waterside & 25A you can see the house I grew up in).

Thank god you are both okay! I can imagine how terrified you must have been. My car spunout in bad weather a few months ago & I cried the whole way home thinking about what if DD had been in the car with me & I had been hit?
