For those with family out of state...
My brother just told me about this AWESOME site...
Skype Video Calls
It's called Skype and you can make free calls through your computer to anyone else on their computer who signs up....
The really cool part about it is that if you have a web cam, you can use it with the calls. I just did it with my brother and SIL in Atlanta and it was AWESOME! Now every night when DS is awake, he can see his Godparents!
Can't wait to get my best friend in CA to sign up so we can let our boys see each other on the computer!
Might just be my new favorite thing! So if you have kids and family in other states, get web cams for your computers and sign up with Skype.... you can see let them see the kids all the time!

this may come across as snotty, but i promise it's not...
isn't skype a little redundant? i mean... if you have yahoo or msn messengers installed and have a webcam, you can run the webcam app for both parties and u have the same thing...

I don't use either of those programs but love skype! So it is not redundant for me at all. Also with those programs- can you talk, or do you have to type? Skype uses microphones.

Re: For those with family out of state...
We have been using skype for at least 2 years now. We used it before they had the video just to make phone calls, but now they have the video DD gets to see her granparents and aunts, uncles and cousins. We all live far away (CT, AZ, FL and Buffalo, NY)
It is really nice to have.

Not snotty at all!! Honestly, my best friend sent me a web cam about a year ago and told me to sign up through MSN. I found it a bit of a long process and never got the video going, plus I didn't think there was a microphone to use with it.
I was told about Skype on Sunday, logged into it last night and in literally 5 minutes had everything set up, linked to my web cam, microphone working and had made a video call to my brother! It seems much easier to me.

Re: For those with family out of state...
Yah the webcam is where ur mic is so once u run yagoo or messenger's app with the webcam, u have instant video/audio - hands free!!!

Well then I guess to answer your original question, if you are someone like me who does not use yahoo or msn messenger, it would not be redundant!!! Just another option for people out there! (as I said I found it to be a bit more user-friendly!)
