I will be in the minority here, but I say go for it. When I was pg it Alex I had your occasional glass of wine and he is fine.

Re: 28 weeks and alcohol question....

I think that should be fine, especially if you're having a spritzer because you're cutting the wine.

Re: 28 weeks and alcohol question....

Dangers of Alcohol

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), which is associated with stillbirths, physical and mental retardation and brain damage. Even moderate alcohol use can cause infertility, miscarriage, placental abruption (separation of the placenta from the uterine wall) and low birth weight babies.

Alcohol interferes with your body's ability to absorb folic acid, which is essential for the fetus' development, especially of the brain and nervous system during the first trimester. Some doctors feel comfortable allowing women to drink a glass of wine per week during the third trimester – but remember that alcohol is going straight into your fetus' bloodstream, too.

I think it is fine to have a glass of wine every now and then without causing the risk of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I would not consider that even "moderate" alcohol use.

Re: 28 weeks and alcohol question....

I personally never had a drink when I was pregnant.
Anything YOU drink BABY drinks..
There is no proof how much alchohol must be consumed to possibly even if its rare cause any damage to the baby.
I dont think its worth taking that chance.

Its FINE!
Reading this basically it says nothing about an occasional glass, one glass a week is more then you need and one glass is not being a moderate drinker....

DO not let this overtake your life. One glass, a spritzer none the less has so little alchohol in it.

My doctor told me I could have a drink every once in a while. I haven't- but that's my own paranoia. If you want one, go for it!

Re: 28 weeks and alcohol question....

My dr said its fine to have a glass of wine. She also said I could have a beer if I wanted it.

I had a half of a beer one night when I was really stressed out. Otherwise that's it for beer. IT was just too weird for me sitting there PG and having a beer.

BUt I have had a few white wine spritzers, I'd say maybe 4 or 5 during the last 7 months. There is nothing wrong with it according to my dr and it really helped relax me.

The other night when I started having a lot of contractions, my dr told me to go relax and have a glass of wine.

A spritzer has half cup of wine and a cup of club soda. Its really nothing. I think I had 1 spritzer in the last month.

I agree. And I love to drink. I love having a drink after a hard day. But I did not touch it for the entire pregnancy. I know there are some doctors that say one glass of wine is ok, but I felt that one glass wasn't really worth it to me, so why take the risk? It's a personal choice that you have to make. Chances are it will have no negative effect on the baby, but there is that small chance that it will.

Re: 28 weeks and alcohol question....

I won't have more than a sip of my husband's wine. The guilt & paranoia I would feel drinking a full glass would certainly outweigh any desire I have for alcohol. JMO
