2nd Birthday Dilemma
I was going to have a small kids party at a bouncy place for DD and a few kids her age. Mainly the kids of people we were friend with for a long time. Since we all started having kids I've been very surprised that we never hear from these friends anymore. It's like pulling teeth to get the other SAHM's to get together so I gave up and made new friends. We haven't been invited to any of their kid's 1st and 2nd parties so I've axed this idea.
Instead I'm thinking of inviting a couple of her friends and the kids in the neighborhood. DD adores them. There are about 12-14 kids on our street ranging from 2-14 and they all adore her too. I am considering inviting them for "cupcakes and icecream in Ainsley's yard" on the afternoon of her birthday. Maybe for an hour and a half or so. Does this sound OK to do? I know she'd have a ball. I was thinking of doing it at 1pm so it's after lunch and not too soon before dinner. Any thoughts on activities? Half of the kids (ages 4,6,7,7,13) all came over and played in her kiddie pool today (and it's a small pool). They had a blast. I want to put a "Only your presence, please no presents" type of thing on the invitation, is that Ok to do?

I love the kids on our street. They all get along really well. They all go to the village camp together, in the afternoons they have water wars and in the evening they play running bases, the big kids throw the little kids run. It's so fun to watch. Anytime I bring DD out they all stop what they are doing. I tell them to keep playing and she'll watch but they all want to hear her say their names, show her the tricks they can do from sommersaults to wheelies on their scooters and bikes. They are all trying to teach her how to jump and how to stand on one foot. I wonder what people think when they drive by and see 10 kids jumping up and down with a toddler looking at them like they are all nuts.
My favorite thing, if the ice cream truck comes when she is napping or after she goes to bed they all yell at them to turn off the music because Ainsley is sleeping.

I like your idea! We have no plans for Michael and I'm beginning to feel guilty. It's so hard to take off weekends for the both of us. I want everyone to get together on a weekday and celebrate with Michael.

Where do you live??? I want to live there- seriously. We have noooo kids by us. I feel so bad for DD. When we start house hunting in January, a neighborhood with a lot of kids is #1 on my list.
I think that your party idea sound grrat. Enjoy!

Re: 2nd Birthday Dilemma
i think your idea for the party sounds awesome and would be really fun for all of them! i have to say your neighborhood sounds great- so many friendly kiddies! wish it was like that on my block-mostly older folks and bigger kids, no lil babies for dd to have as friends yet! i've heard nothing but good things about lindenhurst, although i am not realy familiar with it myself. i have to look into it more-( i am really into northport/kings park/greenlawn areas) we are looking to hopefully move into suffolk next year.
