3 year old sleep issues

I am at my wits end with my almost 3 year old. He still naps at daycare 1 1/2 to 2 hours every day. He is in a toddler bed and just figured out he can get out on is own. He fight bedtime which I can handle but for the last 3 days he has been getting up at 4 am thinking he could get up for the day. I am able to convince him to stay in bed if I stay in the room. Needless to say I am exhausted.. any suggestions? I dont wnat to lock him in his room. thanks

Re: 3 year old sleep issues

I went through this exact phase. It was a nightmare. First putting him to bed we pretty much had to stay in his room till he fell asleep then would get up at the crack of dawn.
I think it was when I got the lady bug nightlight for him. I would say he doesn't have to go to sleep, but he does have to stay in his bed.
It was also when I left my job and took away his naps. He also napped at daycare. Taking the nap away helped, but in your case you can't.
Maybe reward system? We do the sticker chart. I heard there's a toddler alarm clock that teaches the kids to stay in their bed till the sun comes. Something like that.
DS is 4 now and still gets up early. Usually on weekends though. Figures. I let him come in our room at 5AM (no earlier) and he can lay on the floor with a blanket and pillow and he falls asleep. We have carpet and I put something down. He falls asleep again then gets up around 6:30 - 7.

We got the "OK to wake owl" when DD was giving us a super hard time. It seemed to work, but I think she hid it on me LOL.

She is sleeping a lot better these days, although right now she's telling me she has no need to nap.

your first paragraph is exactly what I am going through. everything is a fight. He will be 3 in a few weeks. is that old enough to understand a sticker chart? You would think that since its my 2nd I would know but my first was so EASY!! I also might have daycare wake him up after an hour to see if that helps..
I am deal iwth the early rising but no earllier that 5Chat Icon Chat Icon
