3 years old-no preschool?
Does anyones DS not go to preschool at three years old? If not what do you do with them to socialize them?

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
Megan just turned 3 and I am pretty sure she will not be going to preschool this year. I was thinking about it but I'd rather she spend one more year home with me since I am able to be a SAHM for now.
Next September, I am planning on enrolling her in a preschool program for at least 3 mornings a week.
I do need to get her to socialize more, but for now, I am fine with her spending another year at home before introducing school. She has SO many years of school ahead of her, I dont think its a big issue. Just works for us here (I know its different for A LOT of people and I think thats absolutely fine, not saying my decision is for everyone.)

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
If I am still home or as long as I have my family to watch , DS will not be going to preschool. I would rather save the $ , as for socializing, he will be fine. he is a very social baby and I have no worries about that

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
My Dh and I are in a disagreement about this. Right now DD is 27 months old. I would like her to start preschool next September when she will be 3 so she can socialize and stuff. DH wants to wait until she is 4. We have my mom watching DD now and he feels she has a whole life of school ahead of her...let her be a kid. So we'll see....

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
DS is going this September but if it doesn't work, I'll take him out. He was 3 in Februray and home with me most of the time. I go to the playground, joined a mommy group (online) - which was the best thing that I could have done, and go to play areas at the mall.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
DS is 3 years old and will not be going to a preschool program. Next year as long as he is selected, he will be going to Pre-K. He socializes a lot with his cousins (who are his age), kids at the park, etc.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
My DD is 3 and I don't have her enrolled anywhere right now. I considered it but now that I have to pay somebody to watch my DC I can't really afford it. She gets socialization with her cousins, and if I end up sending her to a daycare instead of somebody coming into my home to watch them, she'll get it that one day a week.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
My DD did start preschool at 3 but I never looked at it as a socialization but more for the learning. My DD has learned the phonetics of all the letters, the continents, parts of the body, working on extending counting, etc.
I was concerned if she didn't go to preschool she might not be where other kids are when they get to kindergarten since preschool tends to be the norm now.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
John will be 3 in december but, will not be starting Pre-K until next September. This is because he will be starting school at 5.5 years old and I think he only needs two years of schooling. He does need to socialize more and we are going to start doing more now that his sister is older.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
We will probably go straight to Kindergarten... Our DC have the rest of their lives to go to school and have a social life...

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
We started DS in the 2 1/2 y/o program and last year he went to the 3 y/o program - this year is the 4 y/o program. He loves it! At first, it was difficult with the separation (which is what I would worry about with not sending them - you don't want them to have to deal with full-day kindergarten and being completely away from everyone who takes care of them both at the same time). So, we did it for getting used to the separation, learning, socializing, making friends and learning how to share, etc. He doesn't really see it as school - he says it's fun. It's not like they get homework - they play, learn songs, make crafts (love getting those at the end of class) and start the basics (counting, learning to identify numbers and letters and to write them, parts of the body, etc). I think it's been a great experience for him and I'm glad we sent him. Of course, you have to do what you feel is right for your DC.

Re: 3 years old-no preschool?
My DD is starting pre-k a week from today & she just turned 4. She has no problems socializing & she knows the alphabet, numbers, & can write her own name & spell some small words. I rathered having her home with me one more year & I taught her those things.
