Daycare mommies 1+ years old...

what are you bringing in for your DC to eat? I am so bad...Bella eats cereal and jar fruit for breakfast and yogurt and toddler jar fruit for lunch....
BOOORING...they have a microwave.

Suggestions on some stuff to bring in for a picky-azz eater?

Jake will (probably) be starting his new daycare next week (YES!! I FOUND DAYCARE Chat Icon ) and they give them breakfast and lunch so if/when I get a menu from them I will post it for you.

In the meantime, don't feel bad because he also still gets boring cereal and fruit for breakfast except for sometimes on the weekends when I have more time to get creative.

But for lunch our current sitter does give him rice and homemade soups.

You could try those Gerber Garden mashups or whatever they are called. They are microwaveable. They also have those graduates soups that have rice and veggies in there. And a mac n' cheese that's pretty good.

Does she like cold cuts?

If you want, I can send you a menu that Tutor Time uses and maybe you can get some suggestion based on what they provide.

Re: Daycare mommies 1+ years old...

We give Alex breakfast before we take her to school, usually fruit mixed with oatmeal or yougurt.

For lunch, I usually pack her one protein (either egg salad, tofu chicken fingers, tofu hot dog, garden burger, canned salmon, broiled tilapia from the night before, hummus, some sort of soup with beans like minestrone soup, or beans). I either just use what we ate the night before, or just throw in something else.

I also pack her one veggie - sometimes corn, usually canned peas or fresh string beans that we ate the night before. Amazingly enough, she LOVES peas.

I also pack one carb - usually a piece of bread to go with the hummus (I always pack her bread and hummus - she's fanatical for hummus. I swear she would eat it for every meal if we let her - she definitely takes after her Israeli daddy!). Edited to add - sometimes I give her pita (YES, she really is Israeli!), or I stick one of those small round potatoes in the microwave for a minute, and either cut it up or mush it with a little bit of margerine and milk to make mashed potatoes. Sometimes, if we ate sweet potatoes the night before, I'll make an extra one for her, cut it up and put it in her lunch box.

I always throw in a slice of cheese for good measure, and, then, usually I cut up some bananas, apple, or melon for her as well. I usually also give her one snack - either a fig newton bar, fruit/veggie puffs or a biscuit.

Mind you - while I shower, DH gives her breakfast and prepares her lunch for the day, that is if I haven't done it the night before. We also joined a farm co-op, which helps tremendously in providing her with fresh veggies/fruits. I just try to make sure that I make a little extra the night before for dinner and then give it to her the next day.

The teachers at daycare always tell us they are ridiculously eager to see what I've packed for her lunch and tell me they've never seen a baby eat so well, or enjoy eating as much as my little porker Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Daycare mommies 1+ years old...

Ok so Ryan dosent go to daycare- but on days I work late and he has to eat lunch at my moms I usually give him-

For breakfast-

I either scramble some eggs real quickm or make a cheese omlet and bring it

or

on the weekends I usually make french toast and or pancakes- and freeze the extras- and he eats that

also-

oatmeal, french toast sticks, and waffles...

-sometimes toast with a little butter and jelly or a sprinkle of cin.

I usually bring some cut up/peeled grapes, or banana-

For lunch- its mostly left overs for whatever we had for dinner the night before:

Cut up pieces of chicken, or meat ball, left over pasta (the kid loves sauce!) mac-n-cheese- peas and macaroni, plain macaroni with butter and parm. cheese (if its left over- thin sliced pot roast or roast beef- since we make it like butter) Also- turkey and cheese or ham and cheese sandwich-

frozen chicken nuggets and or tator tots/ french fries (i try to stay away from this though)

I keep canned peas and carrots in the house (he loves these 2 veg.) and add them to almost every meal he eats- unles of course Im making them fresh

For snacks- he has puffs, cheerios, baby goldfish, cereal bars, once in a blue blue moon, he'll have a piece of coffee cake (he is obsessed) or a cookie (but I take out the choc. chips)
Ryan will only eat real food- and he is very picky- so really what I just typed is basically it!

Do they have a fridge?
Miranda isn't in daycare but here are some things she eats that we microwave

Breakfast
french toast sticks
wheatabix cereal with milk warmed in the microwave (comes out kind of like oatmeal)
string cheese
you could scramble an egg and they coudl microwave it with a slice of cheese

Lunch
chicken nuggets
hot dogs cut up into 4's
mac n cheese
almond butter and jelly sandwich

That's all I can think of right now.

Re: Daycare mommies 1+ years old...

Nate gets fed at daycare.... It's home based, so she and her staff cook for the kids. The menu varies, but they get stuff like?

Breakfast - oatmeal, fruit, eggs, toast, waffles, pancakes, turkey sausage

Lunch - grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, various veggies/fruit, mac n cheese, turkey meatloaf/mashed potatoes, chicken breast, rice

I know she also give the toddlers some of the Gerber entrees and soups when they don't like what they cook for everyone else.
