3 yr old and soccer
Do you think 3 yrs old is too young for soccer? I have the chance to sign Caiden up for a micro-soccer team for 3/4 yr olds. It pretty much for fun and for them to learn how to play. I played soccer for 8 yrs growing up, from 4 yrs old to 12 on travel teams, etc. I just can't believe that I have a child old enough to play sports! He can't start baseball until next year, 4 yrs old.
Also, it's only for 2 months and they have 1 practice every week on the same night for about an hour and 1 game on Saturday mornings, maybe a Friday night game. The problem I'm having is that I work every other weekend and I won't be able to go to every game, and I might not have anyone else to take him so he might miss a few games. Do you think that's a big deal? Do you think it's worth it? I still think he'd have lots of fun. It's only $50 registration and that's it.
What do you think? Thanks!

Re: 3 yr old and soccer
it is hysterical to watch, all the kids just run around bumping into one another I don't think it is EVER too young to start physical activity, they learn teamwork, sharing, get some fresh air, separate from Mom and Dad a bit, get some independence, and have a scheduled activity weekly, I say GO FOR IT!!!!!

Re: 3 yr old and soccer
I signed up DS for karate at 3, and DD will be following suit in about 2 more years. I think 3 is old enough to start taking sports, as long as the target is following directions, listening to adults other than mom and dad, and learning some fun exercises.

Re: 3 yr old and soccer
Thanks! I really want to do it but my DH said that if we sign him up he needs to make it to every game and practice. But since he probably won't since I work every other weekend he doesn't think it's worth it. My DH just doesn't get it!
I would LOVE to sign Caiden up for karate. I thought they had to be older and I thought that they wouldn't listen enough to even be able to do it?

Re: 3 yr old and soccer
Tiger Schulmann's doesn't require potty training (thank goodness!), and there are quite a few 3 yo in the class. The class is only 3 and 4 year olds, so the kids are all about the same age/size/ability. It's amazing how much they can do. The instructors are really patient, and work with the kids, even when they have melt-down days. They line up at the beginning of class,so some warm-up exercises, then do multi-stage activities. ie: climb over a mat, kick a pad the instructor is holding, then go under a "bridge" back to the end of the line.
Plus, it's soooo cute seeing DS in his little karate uniform... It also ensures that I keep going to class, so he can't take out his "old man" when he's 10.... I should be OK until at least 15...

Re: 3 yr old and soccer
I actually signed Jacob up for soccertots-- they have a program for 18-24 months... He is doing it with his dad on Saturdays..
I think it is never to young to start anything..
