30 days of doing something, anything

I've gotten back on the diet wagon a few times since having my DD in January 2010 and each time I've fallen off and fallen further. I still quite haven't figured out what my issue is with sticking to it, but last week I realized I was 30 days away from putting on a swimsuit (going on vacation) and so I decided that I would commit to doing some kind of exercise every day before my trip. I'm not expecting miracles, but I saw how that swimsuit looked like a week ago and any kind of improvement would be nice! I'm also going to do the best I can on food, but without beating myself up about it. My hope is that I will be able to keep the activity level up when I return (esp since I'll end up trying a bunch of classes at the gym just to get something in every day and so I will hopefully find ones I like and will want to keep up with) and maybe then focus more on figuring out what's behind my food issues and why I'm having such a hard time there. Anyway, I thought it would be helpful for me to keep a log of it all somewhere, so here it is so far:

3/3 - ab workout at home
3/4 - very long walk with DD
3/5 - 30 minute Jillian Michaels yoga video
3/6 - 45 minute power sculpt class at the gym
3/7 - 45 minute spin class at the gym
3/8 - 20 minute KK ab workout on EOD
3/9 - mini ab and weight workout at home
3/10 - BL last chance workout on EOD (~25 minutes)
3/11 - extra long walk
3/12 - BL last chance workout on EOD and yoga class
3/13 - BL last chance workout on EOD
3/14 - 45 minute spin class at the gym
3/15 - mini ab workout at home
3/16 - 50 minute spin class at the gym
3/17 - mini ab workout at home
3/18 - long walk with DD
3/19 - 90 minute yoga class & long walk with DD
3/20 - long walk
3/21 - spin class (it started late, but ended on time - think it was about 35 minutes)
3/22 - mini ab workout at home
3/23 (done on 3/24) - walk & 1 minute plank
3/24 - 45 minute ab class
3/25 - back to back zumba and spin classes at the gym
3/26 - fell asleep on sofa - made up for it on sunday
3/27 - went to both spin and power sculpt classes (back to back) at the gym
3/28 - spin class
3/29 - mini ab workout
3/30 - ab workout
3/31 - ab workout
4/1 - packing until almost 2 am - I think it counts ;)

I've been adding to the 2011 workout log too so I apologize for the duplicate tracking, but it will help me to have it in one place on one page so that I can look back at what I did when the first 30 days is up.

I finished Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon. Giving up soda for 30 days next - wish me luck!

I am on the same plan! I finally hit my heaviest... and decided I need to make a change before the warmer weather hits and it becomes bikini season.

I am watching what I eat more carefully, although I am not trying to limit myself too much in that aspect.

I decided I want to do some sort of physical activity every day in march. I started march 1st and so far have worked out every day except 1 time. I do 20-45 minute workout DVD's. I do whichever are available on Netflix's watch it now as well as the Jillian Michael's 30 day shred DVD which I own.

Well, good luck and lots of support!! It is so hard to stay motivated. That is the hardest part for me. Making a mental change to keep at it and not sit on the couch instead...

Right back at you. I'm only 3 lbs away from my heaviest ever (which was short-lived and where I haven't been in 7 years), and this is definitely the longest I've ever been at this weight. It is very hard to stay motivated though - you're so right on that. Tonight, I started falling asleep on the sofa and forced myself to get up and find something that I was willing to try on Exercise On Demand. At this point, it doesn't matter what I do as long as I do something every day because doing anything is hard enough for me! Chat Icon

I always tell people looking to get something different in to keep their motivation up, to check out hot yoga. The studio I go to offers 10 days of unlimited hot yoga for $20.00 for newbies who want to check it out.

They also have an 8PM class M-Thurs for those of you who work/are moms.

The only "catch" is it is 10 days in a row.

I am sure other studios offer similar specials.

this is a great suggestion - thanks! i used to do a lot of yoga before i got pregnant and only tried hot yoga once but i really liked it. i live in the city and you inspired me to do a google search to find a place near me to try later this week. they let you pay by class and it's cheap so it's totally worth checking out - thanks!

Re: 30 days of doing something, anything

I wanted to do more today than just some ab exercises at home, but my knees and left heel are kind of bothering me so I think my body is telling me I need some rest and abs are still something - definitely more than nothing, lol! I'm planning on spinning tomorrow after work so at least that's non-impact, which is good.

Past the 1/2-way point! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I've done less than I would've liked the last couple of days, but I had a work event last night and my body has been hurting, so I think I need to listen to it a little bit more... in any case, I'm still doing something every day, which is better than nothing and that was the goal!

Re: 30 days of doing something, anything

well, i missed a day Chat Icon but i tried to make up for it today with extra activity. last night, i got stuck at the office, remembered that i needed to do something while eating dinner at 9:30 and then forgot so this morning i did a plank and walked to my destination and home today instead of taking the subway.

as for today's "something," i went to a 45-minute ab class. i was not able to keep up at all and wow, my abs are in terrible, terrible shape post-baby but i hope if i can go to this class every week and keep doing smaller ab workouts at home that i will no longer feel like my abs and internal organs are about to fall out. i have already noticed since starting this program that my back hurts less so that's something to be happy about Chat Icon

obviously, i'm having very mixed feelings today. regardless, i will keep trekking and tomorrow i have babysitting lined up and quite a few options class-wise at the gym that i normally wouldn't have so that's good.... trying to keep things interesting before i get bored and lose focus... wish me luck!

4 days left to go! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

next week, I'm off but will be taking a couple of yoga classes while away and then I'm going to start my next 30 days when I get back. I have found a few classes that I really like and on my "off" days, I'm going to do a mini ab workout or like a few planks and give my body a chance to rest a bit so I will still be doing something every day, but won't be risking injury doing it. And I won't beat myself up about it if all I do is a 1-minute plank or get off one subway stop early or something very minor like that.

I'm also thinking about what else I should add to the next 30 day self-challenge - giving up diet soda? white carbs? no carbs at dinner? challenging myself to stick to and track for 30 days since I've been on and off WW for months now? give up take-out? use the stairs when not with dd (I live on the 6th floor so it's doable but would certainly be challenging).. not sure what yet, but will be mulling it over until then...
