Please pray for my mom and family - Update 7/16
I wasn't going to post this online but my mom believes in the power or prayer and she needs all the prayers she can get right now.
One week ago today we got the worst news imaginable. My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The cancer is very advanced and has already spread. My brother, sister, and I are devastated. We are all very close to her. My mom is my best friend.
 We are trying to remain hopeful but we also know how dangerous pancreatic cancer is. Her dr. said surgery is not an option because of the advanced stage of the cancer and she was going to start chemo this week, but we are going to see another oncologist on Wednesday for a second opinion and hoping for more treatment options (such as experimental drugs).
My mom is only 49 years old. Her grandchildren are her life - Genevieve 2 years old, Billy 1 year old, and Landon 1 month old - and they need her around. So please pray for my mom... her name is Donna.
Update 7/11/08
I left this out of the first post... we were trying to get my mom an appt. with Sloan but were told there is a wait and her first appt. would be the end of Aug. We didn't want to wait that long so Sloan reccommended another dr. for us to see affiliated with Cornell. In the meantime my uncle knew someone at Sloan so now we have an appt. there next week.
We went into NYC on Wednesday for the 2nd opinion with the dr. recommended from Sloan. The dr. was awesome and took a long time to explain everything to us in detail, something my mother's first dr. did not do. It is confirmed that she has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The cancer has spread to the lininig of the abdomen and possible 1 lymph node. Because the cancer has spread and because of the location of the tumor on the pancreas (near the aorta) the tumor is inoperable. The "good" news is the cancer has not spread to her Liver. Even though what my mom has is still severe, the fact that it did not spread to her liver or other major organs may enable her to live a year+ versus weeks/months if it had spread to the liver. This is still horrible, but we were all expecting much worse news. The dr. wants her to start chemo asap to try to stop the tumors from spreading. We have the appt. with Sloan next week, and then my mom should be able to have her treatments in Commack which is really close to where she lives. Today is her PET scan, which the dr's said was not necessary, but I insisted she get one.

Update 7/16/08
We got the results of the PET scan. I was really nervous about getting these results because I feared we would see cancer everywhere.. but the good news is the cancer is only in her pancreas and lining of her abdomen. All other organs are clear.
Her appointment with Sloan Kettering is this Friday. In the meantime she is trying an alternitive/nutritional method which is supossed to help your body naturally kill cancer cells... we will see what happens with this.

My heart aches for you and your family. I will have my Mother and her friends pray for your mother at church. I promise you that!!!!!!! If your mother belives in the power of prayer perhaps your whole family grandkids and all can go to the shrine (out east) and pray together.....
I am deeply sorry.

I'm so sorry you and your family are going through this and will keep your mom in my prayers. My father passed away almost exactly a year ago from liver cancer. I know how painful and stressful this time is for you and your family.
