I need something for the base...

Any ideas on what I can use or where I can get something? The cardboard cake bases they sell at Michael's come 5-7/pk and I don't need that many. Plus they were pricey.

All I need is a sturdy 14" (or so) circle...

What did you use?

TIA!

I bought a round cardboard cake base at party city- not expensive at all. I think it was maybe silver with scalloped edges? You can buy just one and they are cheap. I also use a refill pack of baby wipes in the middle of the bottom layer and wrap the diapers around that to make it wider and not need to use so many diapers.

I have seen those cardboard cake bases at dollar stores. I have also used round trays from dollar stores. I haven't made a cake in a while but diapers don't change much!!! Chat Icon

I've gotten them at Party City. They are very inexpensive and they sell them individually there.

I use the silver scalloped cake base from Party City. And I hot glue a paper towel tube to it to lay the diapers around. I've tried using a ribbon wrapped wood dowel b/c I wanted to get more diapers in the cake but it isn't as sturdy as the paper towel tube and doesn't stand up well to shipping.

Interesting... the directions I found said to use a baby bottle or baby shampoo bottle... which do think would work better?

Whichever is taller. You want it to support all the layers. I usually do 3 layers, but I just do diapers, ribbon and flowers.

In that case, it sounds like the tube will work better. Thanks for the tip Cathy! Chat Icon

I just use the cake bases from Michaels because I use them when I bake my cakes, so I have them on hand anyway!

I love diaper cakes!! I used washcloths and bibs as the top layer once to get away from just diapers...very cute!
