33 week appt tomorrow--Update
I have an appointment tomorrow and I am not looking forward to it. I was supposed to take my 3 hour gtt and I haven't been able to do it. At my last appointment 2 weeks ago, I told the dr. that I couldn't go that long without fasting to take the test. She told me not to fast and she would figure out the numbers. I was told to fast for the one hour and I didn't and I failed with a 138. Her cutoff is 130. American Diabetes Association says 140. Anyway I tried once last week to take it and after 3 sips I got sick. So I tried again this week and the same thing happened. I monitor my sugar levels all day long. I have to keep it above 90 at all times or I drop really quickly and it can be dangerous. My Mom ran this by her endocrinologist and he said if I had GD it would have shown up a lot earlier and it would have shown up in the urine samples they take from me at every visit. The baby is measuring normal for 33 weeks and I don't have any other symptoms. I have a feeling that this is going to be a bad day at the dr's office. I have read that they can't force me to take a test, but they like to threaten me by telling me to find someone else if I don't do it. And tomorrow I will do just that if it comes down to it.
I just came back from the Dr and I am amazingly surprised with the outcome...I told the nurse about my issues with the 3 hour test and she told me it wasn't worth the stress. She must have talked to the Dr. because he was very understanding with my problems. I told him I was stressing out over it so bad that it was keeping me awake at night. I went to bed around 3am this morning and finally fell asleep at NOON...Then I had to be up 2 hours later to get ready for the Dr's appt... I told him that I was testing myself at least 3 times a day. My fasting numbers are usually low. And my 2 hour post meal numbers were good. He said he would like them to be in the 120's. I have to look into that. I have to go to the lab with my glucose monitor and do a fasting test with my monitor and then let them draw blood and then go home and eat a normal meal and go back 2 hours later for another blood draw. Why couldn't they tell me this a month ago....

Really?!?!? Have they threatened you before? If so I would have no problem going elsewhere!

Is your obgyn threatening you? For that reason alone I would look for someone else.

Re: 33 week appt tomorrow
OK there is something called a Pancake test. You fast but go to the lab or doctor early in the morning and they take your blood, you then go eat pancakes w/ a lot of syrup, 2 hours from when you eat your last bite you go back and have your blood drawn again. I had this done instead of the 3 hour drink test b/c my OB said it was the same kind of results....I had already done the 3 hour test at like 15 weeks b/c my sugar was high and passed it early on. Not sure why he had me do this test but whatever, I did it and failed it and have GD...but my point is that you will prob. tolerate that test b/c you are eating...and they give that to people who usually can't do the fasting and drink....I don't know the official name of the test but maybe you can explain that to them, they should know about it...good luck! My OB is Dr. Livoti in West Islip who is amazing and would NEVER EVER force you to do that drink and would have you do this in a second !!!

Re: 33 week appt tomorrow
Thanks for the info. I will let my OB know that tomorrow. I hope he goes for it. I wonder how some Dr's know about these other ways and other's don't. And why do some go by one set of numbers and some another. I took the one hour and it made me feel gross, but I did it. SO far I have done everything my Dr has told me to do. I will let you know what happens tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Re: 33 week appt tomorrow
my cousins just passed her 1hr and her dr wanted her to do the 3 hr...Poor thing tired to do it 3 times and just couldnt do it - kept vomitting. Her dr put her on a modified gd diet, had her urine checked at every visit looking for sugar spilling into her urine. She had a healthy baby boy and all was fine. I think u should talk to ur dr

Re: 33 week appt tomorrow
I talked to my reg OB about that when I saw her 2 weeks ago and she told me I had to take the test. I see her partner today and I will tell him what has happened. I don't mind being treated like I have GD. The modified diet cant hurt me. I was told in the beginning of my pregnancy that I was going to be high risk because of my age when i give birth, so this no different. SO far the baby is measuring fine. ANd I only have 46 days left....Thanks for the info.
