34 Weeks and Switched OB
For those of you who are unhappy with your current OB/GYN.
After losing the most wonderful doctor in the world of OB, Dr. Braverman, I was shocked and dumbfounded for a little bit since I had found out I was expecting again.
I continued to go to his old lcoatioon in Garden City, but a new doctor is there, Dr. Robert Dean. After a few 'mishaps' I've experienced there. One from teh beginning where I had a late eappt. to see the doc but instead saw his associate. Can't remember his name and he mentioned that i had a slipped disc. Now, I was shocked and said I have never ever had a slipped disc before or surgery for it. He looked at the PA and informed her to quickly remove the info from my chart and contact the correct patient. My husband and I looked at each other with the same thought.
2. Then i started getting bills for tests that were not covered by my insurance, GHI. Now we were concerned. Kept getting the run around on who is to do what with it.
3. Last Straw was when i went for my 34 week visit. I already had questions on when to fill out pre-cert paperwork, etc. To my knowledge and the beginning of this pregnancy, Dr. Dean is an afflliate with Winthrop. When I questioned the PA for forms for Winthrop, they only had a form for South Nassau. I have no clue where that hospital is or what it has to offer. So PA instructed me to speak with Dr. Dean. He gave me the pitch on why I should go to South Nassau, etc. I was just not interested.
After looking long and hard, called GHI to confirm my suspicions on switching docs so late in the game, I called Dr. Hanauer's office, explained my situation and had an appt. the next day. My husband and I are very happy with her, eventhough it was the first visit. She has such a great bedside manner.
Moral of this story is: Don't be afraid to switch if you do not feel comfortable.
I found out the facts before I switched and felt so uncomfortable with Dr. Dean's practice that I couldn't take it anymore.
And now we're happy again and waiting for our son to come in a few weeks!

Re: 34 Weeks and Switched OB
Good for you! I thought about switching and didn't. Now I harbor really intense feelings of resentment for the OB office - (its a long story, with many tangents, but my birth experience was not what I had wanted and it could have been prevented if they had done their jobs and monitored me appropriately AND they used scare tactics to get me to opt for a c-sec)
I have a post partem appointment today and am dreading seeing these people again. I am sooo angry with them and really wish I had switched - I just thought that 32 weeks was too late in the game - but it definitly is not.
Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy!

Re: 34 Weeks and Switched OB
I agree. I thought the same as you did but during the entire pregnancy. And of course nagging my husband and the horrible things that has happened, I sucked it up and did it.
You just need to make sure that switching doesn't impact your insurance and care so that you don't end up with bills galore at the end.
But definitely, it's never a good feeling to feel like that for your doctor who is supposed to care for you and your newborn and give you medical attention and advice.
