35 week sono results/ 3 hr. glucous test & gd?
hey. i just got back from my 1st sono since 18 weeks (i'm 35 weeks now). they said that the baby looks good (head down, almost 6 pounds), but his head is measuring big and my fluid is high. now i have to go for the 3 hour glucous test to see if i have gest. diabetes.
i'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what your 3 hr. outcome was.
if i do have gd what does that mean for the baby? and what does it mean for me?
anything that i should or shouldn't eat or do?
thanx for any input!

A lot of women have to take the 3 hour glucose test to see about GD. I went a few weeks ago, and it came back negative, so I'm in the clear. I can't tell you exactly what it would mean if you do have GD. Most likely dietary restrictions and possibly some medication to help. It seems like they're testing you for this rather late though, most people I know were tested well before 35 weeks.

I think the majority of people took the 1 hour - then 3 if needed - in the 26 - 28 week range. Seems a bit late for you to be going only now. I know they have their reasons with what your 35 week sono showed, but I wonder why they didnt have you do it earlier? In the meantime, if you are eating a ton of carbs, try to lay off a little. If you are eating healthy - keep it up! Good Luck

This didn't happen to me but I know quite a few who did have this experience. Most opted not to even take the 3 hour being it was so close to the end and otehr did and passed.
If you do have GD - it would probably just mean - low carb/low sugar diet (I had GD but detected at regular time) until baby is born and taking some nonstress tests and more sonos to watch the baby in particular the size. As for you baby - it may be bigger - GD babies tend to be bigger (mine was not). Also GD babies are at higher risk of hypoglcemia since they are typically larger - but not all do (an non-GD babies can have it too). My son had this even though he wasn't too big - he just had to be in the NICU until he could regulate his sugars better. Took him about 4-5 days until he could go home but typically most babies are fine in 2-3 days.
