Question about 5 week sono

My doctor wants me to come in for a sono tomorrow...I am 5 weeks. What should he see at this point? Thanks!

Re: Question about 5 week sono

That's very early.. be prepared to not see anything. I was under the care of a RE the first 8 weeks since I'm pregnant through IVF. They had me come in for my first sono at 5w2d and we only saw a tiny sac, nothing in it yet.

Re: Question about 5 week sono

I'm in the same boat, about 5 1/2 weeks calling the doctor today, don't think they'll let me come in until 8 weeks though, we'll see. I wonder if you can still hear the heartbeat at 5 weeks though?

My doc won't see you till 8 weeks because before that you may see nothing. Don't panic if you don't. Why do they want to see you so early?

I was going to say the same thing.
I am 8 weeks and they would not give me an ultrasound until this week.
Don't be scared if you do not see anything. Most people can see the heartbeat at 6 weeks.

Re: Question about 5 week sono

I went in this morning for my 5 week & you could see the sac...The RE told me that it was very early on but since we went through IVF, I will be going weekly for sono's...

ITA! There is a good chance there won't be anything to see other than an empty sac - so DO NOT PANIC (i know - easy to say - not so easy to do)....don't have any ideas about what SHOULD be seen - and you will be better off!!!! Re: Question about 5 week sono

I was in the same boat as these other ladies. I went for a 5 week sono and saw absolutely nothing at all other than an empty gestational sac. I wasn't prepared for that though and it freaked me out till the following week when I had my next u/s. So please, like the others have said, be prepared to see nothing--that's completely normal when you're this early on. When I went for my next u/s at 6 weeks it was like night and day from the first u/s at 5 weeks--they could see the yolk sac and hear the heartbeat. Everyone is different. GL! Chat Icon

Re: Question about 5 week sono

At five weeks I just went in for a check up - took blood, internal, and preg. test. I didn't have my first sono until about 8 weeks. I am surprised they are doing on so early. But that's great....good luck Chat Icon

Re: Question about 5 week sono

That is super early. At 5w 1d we saw a gestational sac in my uterus and one yolk sac. Could definitely not see a baby yet.

Incidentally, by 6.5 weeks we saw one gestational sac, with two babies (although they called them fetal poles at that point) and two yolk sacs. At 6.5 weeks we also saw two heartbeats!

Re: Question about 5 week sono

Thanks for the responses Chat Icon I just spoke to my doc and he actually said to come in next week when I am 6 weeks. The secretary made a mistake in saying that I should come in this week Chat Icon Anyway, I have to go for bloodwork tomorrow and Friday. I have an appointment next Tuesday for the sono. Chat Icon
