39th 1/2 week internal and question about breaking the water

My due date is this Sunday and went to my 39th week appointment today. As per my internal Dr. says I’m 3 almost 4 cm dilated and he told me I could come to the hospital tomorrow so that he can break my water and see what happens from there. He didn’t really say it but I think he also stripped my membranes based on what he said and how it felt. He won’t be around this weekend, so if I wait he may not be the one to deliver me if I happen to go in labor the day he is out. I’m over 39 weeks so I knew he was going to bring it up, but it kind of took me by surprise because I never thought he was going to say to do it tomorrow. He said I could think about it and let him know, so I am to call tomorrow morning and confirm. He said we would just break my water and see what happens from there and based on that we would do pitocin if needed but so far I have been making nice progress so I think that he hopes that the breaking of the water might suffice to speed things along



Has anyone had experience about breaking the water and actually progressing without having to use pitocin?

My dr stripped my membranes and I went in the next day and they broke my water. Even with pitocin...I never dilated past 6 cm. I ended up with a C Section after 14 hours of labor. But I was also only 37.5 weeks and was only dilated 1 cm when he stripped my membranes.

Personally, I'd efuse to hav my water broken. I was 3 cm with baby #2 and they stripped my membanes.
I went into labor, and at 5 cm got to the hospital. He broke my water and I had her less than an hour later.

baby #3 I was shy of 3 cm's and he decided to break my water first to see if I'd go on my own. I didn't so they gave me potocin.

I'd wait to go naturally...just my 2 cents. You are right there- dilated and 39 weeks. It can happen anyday-anytime!
