3rd tri preggies: what's the worst that can happen re: braxton hicks?
Say you feel more than 5 in an hour and you don't do anything about it, like lay down or drink water or go to the hospital...what's the worst that can happen? Do they just want you to do all of the above to be on the safe side or can BH mean something more serious?

If you're dehydrated, the worst that can happen is you'll pass out and end up in the hospital getting fluids through IV for a few days. At least I think so. I really wouldn't risk anything, though. Dehydration towards the end can cause low amniotic fluid levels which can endanger the baby, to my understanding. I'm not a doctor, though.

My doctor told me to keep on drinking to prevent pre-eclampsia. That's what I was told during my first PG too, which they strongly suggested when I had contractions around 27 weeks. Can't hurt to drink right? Doctors have to know something more than us.

braxton hicks are contractions! they just dont lead to full on labor but if they are coming more and more and you dont do anything it can bring on labor ...at least this is what my doctor had told me my last prego

i was just in the hospital last weekend with BH contractions every 1-3 minutes. they hooked me up to an IV to hydrate me since I was severely dehydrated. It didn't results in any cervical changes so they released me after i went through one bag of fluids. all i can recommend is that you do LOTS of drinking :)

Well I know I'm not dehydrated, I go thru tons of water daily (I live in TX and its been HOT here lately). I know if I lay down they'll go away but I get so many thru out the day, I'd have to be in bed all day to not feel them. They're not painful, just sometimes uncomfortable.
I got clarification today on what BH feels like and I noticed how often I have them and I did lay down. I just wanted to make sure BH doesn't develop into anything serious if I don't follow the "rules" per se. Thx!
