4 year old and infant
Please tell me how your 4 year interacts with your infant. My son is not good with her at all. He's overly excited and screams in her ear or claps in her face. He doesn't listen when I explain to him that he needs to be gentle. It almost seems to be getting worse. I dont know what to do anymore.

Re: 4 year old and infant
I only have one child (17wks), but my friend has a 4yo DS and a 6month DD. I have seen them interact. He does the same exact thing...he's very aggressive when he plays with her. I've even seen him yelling near her ear. The baby does'nt seem to mind but my friend is always correcting him telling him to be more gentle. He loves his little sis so I don't think he's doing it to be mean.

Re: 4 year old and infant
My 4 and 5 year olds are like little mommies with their baby brother. They were 3 and 4 when he was born. They always rushed to him when he cried and always wanted to hold him and kiss him. Now that he is 1 they play with him and try to keep him from getting into things he shouldn't get into. They never tried to pick him up when I wasn't looking(which was a fear of mine). They are gentle little ladies.

My dd was the exact same way. Ittbseemed the more we told her to stop, the more she did it. So what we did that helped a bit was just picking baby up and moving Jim away from her without making a big deal. Try to explain to him that he's scaring the baby. Itbwill get better with time!

Re: 4 year old and infant
My 2.5 Dd is rough @ times like that with my 1 month old DS. We keep reminding her how to touch, talk etc to baby. We also move DS when needed and dont leave them alone together for a second. I think it wiill get better....they get excited & dont know what to do.

My DS is the exact same way, but overall he is wonderful with infant. He does need to be reminded to be gentle and quiet, but I'm so thrilled that he loves the baby and isn't jealous hang in there

this is my son as well. They are 3 1/2 years apart. My oldest is so good with the baby. He's so gentle, he helps all the time, and tries to make him laugh all the time.
do you try to incorporate your older one in helping you? We've always asked Jacen to help us by throwing out the diapers, handing us a burp cloth, putting the pacifier in his mouth and so forth. Then we praise him left and right for helping mommy and daddy so much and for being such a good big brother.

Re: 4 year old and infant
My son is really great with his sister. When she was first born, he pretty much ignored her but now that she is older adn moving they are becoming such buddies. More than I thought which such an age difference. He is 4.5 now and she is 1. She adores him and he likes to make her laugh. He is gentle - most of the time. But can get a little crazy with her (although she loves it).
