40th Birthday Party for DH
I would love to have a surprise 40th for DH but here's my issue - kids. Of course I want my DC there and others DC too but if I have it at night most kids won't be able to stay up that late. Is it bad to have it during the day or late afternoon so everyone can bring their kids if they choose too or is a night party the way to go?? I'm so torn over this.

I think it's totally up to you! We just went to a surprise 30th this past weekend that started at 3:00 because the birthday girl has 2 children. I didn't think it was weird at all.

I agree, have the party when you want. If having something in the afternoon/late afternoon works better for you then so be it.
I think people will bring their kids regardless of time, unless it's really late. I know growing up, my parents took us to parties all the time in the evening.

Re: 40th Birthday Party for DH
im actually throwing a party for my DH soon. the party is in the afternoon and family (including kids) is invited. after the party, a select group will go on to continue the festivities.
the way i see it, its the best of both worlds...and i figure DH would be more surprised over a LUNCH party....plus, its more manageable for my budget!
