Anyone get induced?

There may be a possibility I may be induced.

What was your experience?

Did the baby need assistance to be born? (forceps, vacumm etc)

Do you have to get an epi during induction?

I have read/heard the contractions during induction are wayyy more painful.

Your experiences and wisdom would be much appreciatedChat Icon

Re: Anyone get induced?

I did, both times. Not sure if the contractions were worse or not. The second time, I responded a lot better and a lot quicker. We had no intervention (except an epi at or by 2 cms). Once my water broke, I progressed to 10 immediately. I even had a "big" kid, and definitely two kids with, what is considered, a very big head.

Most importantly is to discuss with you OB on how long they'll wait and anything that would cause a c-sect.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced and ended up with a c-section. First I had cervidil to ripen the cervix. It's a vaginal insert and it causes contractions. Each dose is a 12 hr dose. I had three doses but the third one didn't last the whole time, finally my water broke. After my water broke, they started pitocin which brings on the "real" contractions and makes them regular. I didn't get an epi until 4cm.

If you ask me, yes, the contractions on the cervidil were worse than the "real" ones because there was no rest in between. It felt like my uterus was constantly contracted where as with a regular contraction there is a peak and then you get a break for a minute. Didn't hurt much at first but once I was headed into my 24th hour of cervidil, I begged for drugs. They gave me stadol which let me sleep for awhile.

My induction experience was not one of the good ones, so don't go by me - I've heard of plenty of women that have a smooth induction. My induction began at 8pm on a Tues and he was born via c-section at 4:34pm Thursday. So what's that - 44hrs? Not your typical induction, but it can happen. I didn't get an epi until about noon the day he was born.

Good luck!! Chat Icon

I had a sceduled induction and had the greatest experience. The contractions were bearable---when I got uncomfy I sat in the glider and that motion helped ALOT. It wasn't until they broke my water that I was in tears and got my epi. What a lifesaver...after that, I couldn't even tell I was having a baby.

No help needed...she popped right out after 5 sets of pushes (3x each set).

Like I said, the contractions were every 4 min and lasting about 70 sec. I felt them but it wasn't bad enough for me to get upset over. I carried on conversations, watched tv, read magazines, even cracked jokes with the nurses. When they broke my water I had tears in my eyes and asked for the epi right away. It was such a good epi that my whole right leg was completely numb and as she came down the birth canal....all I felt was the need to pee badly. That's what it felt like....when the nurse checked she said I needed to push and not a half hr later, Alyson Paige was delivered by her own Daddy.

It wasn't bad for me at all. I went in on Monday night, got the cervidil, pitocin started Tuesday morning by 9:30 and I had Sarah vaginally at 5:40pm.

Did the baby need assistance to be born? (forceps, vacumm etc)

Nope.

Do you have to get an epi during induction?

I got one early on (about 11am Tuesday) because I was in back labor and was unable to lie still for more than 30 seconds, so the fetal montior kept moving and they couldn't get a read on the baby. But I have a low threshold for pain.

I have read/heard the contractions during induction are wayyy more painful.

I don't know, I was in false labor for about 2 weeks before she was born and that seemed worse to me, but maybe becuase they were random and just hit out of the blue.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I wouldn't say I was induced, but I did get Pitocin. My water broke on it's own, and once that happens the doctors want the baby out within 24 hours so they gave me Pitocin to make sure that happens. My labor wasn't too bad, but my back labor was horrendous (which is why I got my epi at 4cm). The contractions were definitely worse on the Pitocin. Jesse was born less than three hours after I got my epi, so the Pitocin must have moved things along.

Re: Anyone get induced?

Hi, I got induced with my DD, She is my first baby so I dont have any prior experience with this. I got the cervadil inserted around 8pm and by about 11.30 the contractions were coming strong and closely together, I lost the cervadil insert about this time too and the doc came in to examine me. He broke my waters when he examined me and said I was 10cm!!!so off to the delivery room, I really wanted the epidural and although I was at 10cm they gave it to me, this of course slowed everything down but I dont regret it as I was feeling like I Was losing control of the situation and this gave me my control back. I rested for a little, then started some practice pushes around 2.30 am and my DD was born at 4.30 am......no forcepts or vacuum but I did have an episiotomy(sp)......all in all it was a good experience and of course the end product was the ultimate!!!Good luck Chat Icon

Re: Anyone get induced?

I did and it was the BEST Experience of my life!!
I was 5 days late and got cerivdal inserted on Wed night around 8 pm. Mild contractions, but bareable throughout the night - next morning at 9 am - they gave me pitocin, they broke my water - contractions become more consistent and painful. I got my epidural which was a lifesaver - Best experience of my dear life!! and started pushing at 10:30 am (was 10 centimeters) - i had my daughter a half hour later!! The doctors couldn't believe how quick i dialected and how fast i was able to get her out.

I can't wait to do it all over again!!!!

Re: Anyone get induced?

What was your experience?
I was induced at 37 weeks with a high BP and protein in my urine...signs of pre-e. It was a very good experience. I had the cervadil inserted at 10 pm on a Wednesday night, pitocin started at 10 am and I was pushing by 9:30 pm. Pushed for an hour and a half and the baby was born at 11:04pm.

Did the baby need assistance to be born? nope

Do you have to get an epi during induction?
I would have had one either way, it was the best thing I ever did!!!

I was induced w/ both of my boys (they didn't want to come on their own! Chat Icon) Both times I was induced w/ Cytotec and then Pitocin. I was in labor for 21+ hours w/ #1 and 16+ hours w/ #2 (should not have been that long, but we had complications and the pit was stopped several times).

They didn't need any assistance (my first was 9 lbs, 5 oz) I did have an episiotomy w/ the first and tore w/ the 2nd.

Since I never went into labor on my own I can't compare cx. I was definitely experiencing pain. Chat Icon I tolerated it as much as I could and then requested the epidural.

Good luck!!

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced and loved it! I was already 3cm and fully effaced when they induced me. I had an epi right away so I didn't feel a thing. I loved knowing when I was giving birth and not having my water break in a public place or in my house. I had a very easy labor and only pushed for about an hour and a half. I didn't feel any pain and my DD was born very healthy and happy.

Good luck!

Did the baby need assistance to be born? (forceps, vacumm etc) nothing she flew out in 5 pushes!

Do you have to get an epi during induction? You most likely will want to because induced contractions are much more intense than natural ones.

I have read/heard the contractions during induction are wayyy more painful. Yep.....they keep increasing the pitocin which brings the contractions closer together

Your experiences and wisdom would be much appreciatedChat Icon

If you need to be induced just don't wait too long for the epi...I labored naturally for 2 hours and then knew it was time for the drugs.........best decision I ever made!!

Sounds like me. My water broke and I had the strep b so had to get anti-biotics and I wasn't dialated at all. I was immediately put on Pitocin and boy did contractions change - they hurt a lot. Progression was slow so they gave me pain meds (which I hated and wouldn't do again) and then as I progressed a little more the epi. Epi was very worth it and I would do again. All in all - water broke around 8pm, pitocin around 10pm and baby came out at 8:10 am the next morning. I also had no assistance besides the episiotomy as well. Not a bad experience at all. I thought it was all easier than I thought it would be.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced, and was glad I did because I was afraid of the uncertainty.

The doctor didn't use forceps or vacumm or anything. When it came time to push, she was born in 30 minutes (like 5 pushes).

I did not have an epi since the doctors couldn't really check to see if I was dialated since I had a slow leak. That part freaked me out... but the actual birth didn't hurt, it actually felt really good.

I can't say whether the contractions were worse than not being induced since Mads is my only child.

Hope that helps.

Re: Anyone get induced?

Yes, I did. First I got Cervidil, then Picodin. Christopher wasn't getting enough oxygen, so I ended up having to get a C-section after being in labor for only 7 hours. It would've taken a LONG time anyway, because after that 7 hours, I was only 1 cm.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced with both my boys.

Im hopeing to be induced this time too.
Had cervidil in the Pm and both times it through me into labor sveral hours later

One labor was 4 hours, one was 5.
No forceps. Both over 8 pounds.

I cant tell you about the contractions becuase I have nothing to comnpare it too.

I know most woman dont feel the way I do but I LOVE being induced. I feel so prepared this way. I shower, shave.. get into the car.. go to the hospital..there are no surprises and when the labor starts, im there already...im not at home panicked..lol

I was induced and it did not work. After 3 days they decided I needed to have a c-section. I was 35 weeks so my body must not have been ready for it, but one of my boys stopped gaingin weight, so they felt he would do better outside rather then inside.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced on my due date - I don't know if it makes a difference, but I was already having mild contractions when they hooked me up to the monitor before they started inducing me. But, compared to my first, what a great experience. Everything was planned out and calm, they started the pitocin slowly and when the contractions got too painful I got the epidural, and after about 3 hours I was totally dilated and pushing. I pushed 12 times (3 times each through 4 contractions, and she was out - all 8 lbs 3 oz of her!) I would do it again in a heartbeat - but before I did it I was so paranoid and afraid!

I was induced - My water broke at home - 2 weeks before my due date. Wasn't dialated or effaced.

I was given cervidil first (did nothing for me) and then pitocin - also did nothing for me, except painful contractions. I got an epi around 4/5 centimeter's (wonderful!)- Wouldn't progress any further than that, and wound up having a c-section that night.

Re: Anyone get induced?

I was induced after being 9 days late and end result was a csection also. I was scheduled to have cervidil also, but when I got to the hospital at 7pm on a thursday eve, I was having mild contractions. They had been happening all week, and I was 2 cm dilated. So, they hooked me up to the fetal monitor, broke my water and started the pitocin as well as gave me something to calm me down and I dozed for a few hours on and off. At first everything was going great, and I didn't feel any pain. Then I started to feel more contractions, so they gave me the epi, which worked until 7am the next morning, upon which I began having terrible pain. They discovered that my epi catheter thing had fallen out (I told them to check it actually because this happened to a friend of mine) and they redid the epi. At that point I was like 6 cm dilated, but then went back down to 3 cm. At 11am, the dr told me that things were not going to progress and her head was still very high and she was too big for my pelvis (she was 8lbs and I am 5 ft tall) and recommened a the csection which is what happened. It was not the best experience for me and something I had wanted to avoid. But, I do have a beautiful and healthy daughter and am grateful for that...

Just remember that inductions can go either way. Good luck and know your options.
