choosing to be induced? anyone do it?
I'm going to ask my dr about possibly being induced should I make it to my due date or past it since my father and step mom will be here and I REALLY want my dad to be around for her birth (not necessarily in the room, but there).
Is there a certain amount of time to be late that they will induce? or can you flat out say, I want to be induced when so and so is in town?

Re: choosing to be induced? anyone do it?
In my office there is 3 dr.'s
One swears he induces (if you wanna be) after being 2 days late...the other makes you weight to go on forever, and the third she kinda does both...
I know plenty of people who opt to be induced after there due date...it al depends on your Dr.
I know how you feel with wanting your dad to see the baby....talk to your dr. see if its an option!
I was supposed to be induced, but since I was going early and my cervix was making NO progress, the Dr would only take the baby via c-section...or I had to wait...

Talk to your doctor about it - most will make you wait until after your due date. Remember that a due date is just a "guess" and can be off by 2 weeks. If you should go past your due date they will do a NST to check the baby's heartrate and a sono for size and will usually use that to determine if they will let you continue to "cook" LOL or offer an induction.
This is just my opinion but I would try to avoid the induction and just let your body do what it does naturally. Inductions can be rough and I *believe* there is a higher c-section rate with them.
I know people who have had great induction experiences and people who swear they'll never do it again unless absolutely necessary. Unfortunately there is no way to tell how your labor is going to go.
I'm sure that your Dad will change his flight and do whatever he needs to be with you.

Re: choosing to be induced? anyone do it?
It depends on the doctor...mine said anywhere between one and two weeks...I'll see what they have to say today since I'm 5 days late. I agree with lorimarie about waiting until your body is ready rather than be induced...but, I know how frustrating this waiting can be...

Depends on your doctor - you'll have to talk to him/her about it.
My Dr wanted to induce me early (well, early IMO). I chose my induction date which happened to be my original due date before they moved it up (July 5th). A friend of mine demanded that her Dr induce her ON her due date and it was done.

Re: choosing to be induced? anyone do it?
IMO I agree with Lorimar you should try and wait and she what your body does naturally. I was dialating and they had to give me drugs to help me along and it caused Alex to go into distress and the drugs had to be stopped. I think it is best to wait for labor to come naturally unless you go way past your due date.

I personally would never ask to be induced unless it was for my safety or the baby's. The risk of c section icreases because your body just isn't ready to have the baby.

I don't know, I hope I dont have to make that decision. My 2 friends were both induced in April. One was so happy she did. The other was so mad she did because her labor was sooooo long.

That said going into my 5 day late appointment I was still willing to go back home and wait it out as miserable as I was. I just really didn't want to force my body to do what it wasn't ready to do until the choice absolutely had to be made.

Re: choosing to be induced? anyone do it?
I got induced 2 days before my due date b/c I had insurance issues - my company seperated my employment sooner than they told me they would so my insurance was running out. As it is it still got all screwed up and I have to pay my OB's $5,000 bill myself.
If it wasn't for the insurance I wouldn't have induced, although Sarah was totally healthy when she was born and still is. Her ped. was amazed at how strong her neck muscles were when she was first born. But I think that if you can wait it out it's the best for everyone.
