There was a big fire in our neighborhood this weekend during which time our electricity was cut.

We weren't home and only found out about it hours afterwards.

This got us talking and wondering if they had to cut the gas and then turn it back on can they do that? Would our basement fill with gas if we weren't there to relight the pilot light?
