C/S Moms - freaky story about my c/s delivery & question - WARNING: graphic & preggos might get scared

Question first: If you had a c-section, did your DH look? You know what I mean, when the baby was being taken out, or when you were cut open? Did YOU try to look or want to look?

I kept telling DH NOT TO LOOK (before I even got induced), because I had a feeling he would. He promised me he wouldn't but he DID... he said he saw my uterus outside my body somewhere (LOL it was probably the placenta!) and my intestines laying on top of my belly. Chat Icon (Hey, I warned you!) Later of course he said he really wished he hadn't looked.

THEN here's what happened to me....

As I was laying there on the table, holding DH's hand trying not to think about what was going on, I looked around the room. To my left was a cabinet where they kept bottles of stuff. One of the Drs walked over and took something out. He left the door open. It was made of glass. I looked at the glass, and because of the glare of the bright OR lights, there I saw a reflection of my body
below the curtain! I didn't see much except my belly open and held open by those clampy things.

I turned to DH very calmly and said "Tell them to shut the door." He said "What? What door?" I said again with more urgency in my voice this time since I couldn't tear my eyes away, "Tell them to SHUT THE DOOR!". He looked over and saw what I saw and gasped and put his free hand over my eyes.

He told them to shut it. The Drs were like why? When I told them I could SEE what they were doing, they were in shock. They said no one had ever pointed that out before!

I still get chills when I think about it!

That is horrible. My older sister has pictures of her son coming out of her - and you can see her intestines.

That's one reason why I was so adamant about avoiding a c/s. I told me husband that there was just no way they were putting everything back exactly as they found it & I was used to my intestines in the spot they're in.

And I applaud you for the warning in your subject title for the moms that want the ignorance is bliss option.

I think I would have passed out right then and there. This is the whole reason I am a pharmacist and not a doctor. I cannot deal with the blood and gore. I would still have nightmares I think.

When my Dh went over to take a picture of Jared, he had to walk past the curtain. While he was walking back, he glanced over at me, sat down and put his head between his legs. He later told me that all my organs were on my chest...so that's why he had to sit down like that...Chat Icon Chat Icon

I still have nightmares when I think about what I let the doctors do to me...all because they are not educated enough to v-birth a breech baby...it just makes me incrediable sad and sick. Again, doctors neglect to tell many of us these details prior to consent.

I guess I see nothing funny about it but I wish I could like some of you do.

My husband was a farmer & calfed cows so he loved looking when Patrick was born. He loves to tell me he knows me better then I know myself. Cause he seen ALL of me!Chat Icon

But for the twins the nurses kept telling him to stay behind the curtain & stop peeking. He was like it's fine I've seen it all. But, this little nurse would have none of it.

beacuse my C/S was an emergancy...I was already open when DH walked into the room.
He said that he saw the Dr. reaching into me ...but when DH saw my face he just ran over to my side and kept eye contact with me until the baby was out and being worked on by the NICU Dr's....at that point both of us were looking in that direction.

Re: C/S Moms - freaky story about my c/s delivery & question - WARNING: graphic & preggos might get scared

Its funny you posted this because I got my period yesterday morning, and last night I felt such bad pain by my c-section area like a bad bruise all around that area, I thought it was gas but when I touched it I thought I was going to cry it hurt so bad. I was saying to DH I hope they put everything back the right way--lol (meaning my organs). The pain is gone now but It was so scary to feel that kind of pain again having Julia 6 months ago. Chat Icon Has anyone else gotten that pain when having there period?

Re: C/S Moms - freaky story about my c/s delivery & question - WARNING: graphic & preggos might get scared

DH was having a hard enough time when I was in labor thinking about seeing my baby coming out from me. When we were told about the c-section he felt a little better. He stayed behind the curtain and when he got up to take pics of the baby he accidently looked over and saw my organs. He was a little woozy (he saw an autopsy in college so I guess this couldnt have been that bad). He kept telling me not to look to my left which I did it was just blood didnt bother me at all.

All in all we both had a great experience with my c-section

YES!! Something similar just happened to me last week actually. I started getting strange pulling sensations in my c-section scar area. Then suddenly one day, it was all puffy, kind of swollen actually and I started to get worried. The next day, I got my period and the puffiness went away and I realized that's why my scar was acting up! It was really weird. I also had my C/S almost 6 months ago.

There was one of those metal like lamps above me, I could see everything in its reflection. I tried not to look, but I did see the babies coming out. My DH - god bless him - watched the entire thing, the Doctor had to tell him to please back up unless he wanted to perform the surgery himself! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am FREAKING OUT thinking that all my "guts" were pulled out of my body and then put back again.

My DH said that he couldnt believe that they were not more gentle. He said it looked like they would just shove aside an organ to get to another. Ploping things down on your stomach/chest to do what they needed to do. He called me a piece of meat for a few weeks after Emma was bornChat Icon

Someone I know told me about that seeing the whole thing in the cabinet glass reflection - I made sure I didn't look! I'm not sure if DH did, I don't think so.

But let me tell you the most pain I had was on the one side of my abdomen but not the scar. When I asked the Dr about it he said oh that was probably from the clamp.... ummm there was a clamp that was holding everything open to one side Chat Icon thats what did the most damage to me Chat Icon

The thread title should have been called "C/S Survivors Might Get Scared!" Chat Icon

Anyhow, my DH did not look, but I didn't want him to look at a vaginal delivery either. And I MOST CERTAINLY would never have looked given the option. Oooohhh...sorry about your experience!

I guess I knew that your organs were out during the delivery, but didn't really believe it until now. You know whenever I have a random twinge in the area I always tell my DH they probably connected my parts back together wrong!!

It is mostly for this reason I didn't have a great c/s experience. I am the most squeamish person on earth...even the word "blood" makes me ill. I tried not to think about it, but couldn't help myself and ended up having some sort of panic attack and then they gave me more drugs!!
