Thanks for all of your input everyone!
I talked DH down to $250.
Unfortunately I can't get him any lower. But at least that's half of what he wanted in the first place!!!!!
If it were up to me she'd be getting $100!!!!!!

I think $500 is insane. I think that $100 and maybe a piece of jewelry along with it is more than generous.

Listen if your DH wantsto give $500 for a sweet 16 then give me your address and I will send you an invite to my wedding cuz I will be happy with a gift like that LOL LOL LOL
I would say between $50 and $100 thats it
ETA if he feels that might be cheep then spend the $100 and get her a $200 savings bond

I gave my neice 300, because I know she is saving for a car, and she has had it really rough in life. Deadbeat dad, etc. But in any other case, 100 bucks is QUITE sufficient.
IMO, Sweet Sixteens are getting out of control. They are like weddings now, it's ridiculous.

DH's cousin is having her Sweet Sixteen at Oheka! I can't imagine where they'll do her wedding one day.
I'd give, unless I was extremely close to the girl, $150 for 2 people.
