OK tell me why you LOVE Long Island...
All I ever see is the LI bashing...
It's expensive
It's crowded
No affordable housing
OK so what are some good things about it...not that your family is here...but what makes Long Island itself a great place to live?

the only reason I have would be my family, friends, my whole life before recent time is from there, other than that, I have no desire to go back.

I don't know a lot about the history of LI, from when it was first settled through the Revolution, etc. I think LI's role in the history of the country has been kind of lost but I think it's an asset.

my job- teaching almost anywhere else pays horribly and wouldn't be worth the cheaper housing.
beaches
hiking trials- Pine Barrens
shopping- my MIL is constantly sending things to my OOT SILs
4 seasons
close to airports for DH's job, travel
job opportunities

beaches, beaches, beaches...there are just so many to choose from.
schools...we have some of the best schools in the country on long island
the hamptons
and of course the shopping
ETA: I forgot about the pizza and the bagels...it's just not the same anywhere else!

Beside my family being here, it's close to everything. You have the beach, the city, the winery out east and gorgeous upstate NY. Even though we complain about NY...I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

- The weather. I love the change of seasons. Summer isn't too long and winter isn't that bad either.
- The beaches
- The food/restaurants.

Convience of stores (don't have to drive 20 miles to get some groceries)

Long Island gives you the best of everything. Great location, the beaches are gorgeous. Go to the North Shore for some rocky beaches, the south shore for sand in your toes, you have the wineries, the city, the restaurants, the airports ---most people can't fly direct from their hometowns, we can fly all over, you have good schools, I can go on and on. But, I must say, I appreciate Long Island in the summer and fall the most.

Same here plus the school districts. Also accents aside, I like that we talk faster here. I can't stand talking to very slow talking people. It throws me off because while they can be smart, I think automatically think of them as stupid.
