I Stood Up For Myself At Work...UPDATE
...and asked for more money after my review on Friday. They were shocked; I am so easygoing but I am truly being taken advantage of. My review was excellent, my increase was total crap, with added responsibility. I'm really nervous to go in tomorrow to hear what they come back with AND to face them....I'm just nervous, but I am proud of myself for saying something--finally. I even brought in that salary report for my area that someone here had posted from Monster!!!! They knew I meant business and that I was angry, and they were truly surprised....
Update: They came around a little bit, but not entirely. However, what made me feel much better is when my boss explained how she knew it was hard for me to come to her like that and they admired it. She also pointed out some key tasks to take on that could earn me more next year....not sure if I buy it, but whatever.
Was it what I wanted? No. Do I have my self-respect? Yes. And I'm certainly glad I didn't have to give them two weeks. Whew.

Mid review, I stopped my boss when he told me I would be Web Editor, too...in addition to editor of all the magazines. The increase was sooo bad. He goes: You aren't happy.
I actually said: Well, this gives me more ammunition; I'm totally being shafted.

I think they're going to give me more, but I don't think they will meet what I asked for....DH is like: Go in and wear a suit and leave during lunch now and then; make them nervous!
We don't wear suits, and I usually eat at my desk. We'll see what happens...they can't blame me for looking, which I probably will.

Don't back down. Most people (mostly women) don't make what a man would make in the same job because they don't ask for what they deserve.
I'm proud of you.
If they don't give you what you asked for then I would start looking.

Good morning!!!!! So far, the top 3 "decisionmakers" have all walked right by me and NOT said good morning.
If they do nothing and give me zero money, I'm saying:
"Two weeks notice. I'll be here this week; next week I'm taking my California vacation."
I'll work at freaking Ann Taylor and do freelance in the meantime.....I'm SO at that point.

Good for you for saying what I always wanted to say. I hate publishing salaries and hate how they make you feel like you should be grateful to actually have your job and that a 2% raise is okay
They need to wake up and start realiizing that the industry is not filled with the trust-fund babies of the past and you are real people who need real salaries!
