Ugh ... I'm just stressed --- need to vent...UPDATED at the bottom

My DH was very sick last night --- up all night congested and stuff --- and he has severe asthma -- and didn't end up going to work today.

When I got home from work he was really bad. Having a hard time breathing despite the fact that he took his nebulizer 5 times today.

I had to run out and drop the car off at the mechanics because I have an appt to get the brakes done tomorrow. My co-worker is taking me into work.

When I got back from dropping the car off he was really bad and said he needed to go to the hospital -- so I called his dad up who lives 5 mintues away since I had already dropped off my car and his dad took him.

This happens in the fall. He always gets really sick, goes to the hospital for his asthma and then ends up having to stay days. It is usually not until October or November .... so it's early this year, but expected in a way. In the 4 years we've been together it's happened every year.

The sucky part is that I have Curriculum Night at my school tomorrow night and the Parent Coordinator already called & invited all of my parents so that they could come and meet me. If he has to stay overnight I can't go to work -- the babysitter won't take the baby that early in the morning (I am out the door by 6:15) and with him being in the hospital I'd rather just spend the day home so I can go up there if I need to.

I am just so stressed out ---- I can't blame him, it's not his fault, but this is just such a crazy time for this to happen --- to boot the house is a disaster -- it looks like a tornado hit -- because he was home all day and just left everything all over...

I'm sorry if I sound like a whiney complainer .... I'm just stressed over this....it totally makes things harder when you have a baby involved when stuff like this happens.

I have a few kids at day care who have been out because their asthma is so bad and usually it isn't till October too. I think it is bad all around

sorry Melissa - I remember when he was sick last year...that is awful that it happens every year. I hope he feels better soon and the next few days are easy for you.

My FIL just called me --- they are admitting him since it was so bad --- so it looks like he'll be spending the night...

And my FIL told me that with the new insurance his copay for the ER is $1000.



Don't quite know how that is going to happen.....I hate INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!

Hi Melissa, I am sorry. I wish that there was something I could do for you. I just know that family comes first and if you have to miss curriculum night well the parents can meet you another time. I would come and help you over the weekend if I can get out of temple for the Jewish holidays on Saturday. Actually I am going to Gymboree but temple is after. I have bad asthma, too, and I know how horrible this time of year is for me. For about 15 years straight, I'd end up in the hospital in the fall. Luckily, I have it under control now. I feel very bad for your DH because I know it can feel like there is a 1000lb. weight sitting on your chest all the time.
I think you have a valid reason to not attend curriculum night. You husband is in the hospital. If someone told me their husband was in the hospital, I'd wonder why in hell they were at curriculum night. Why don't you make a handout that has all the information you want to get across on it, and also your contact info so any of the parents who'd like to meet with you can do so at their own convenience? Hang in there

I would ask FIL to watch Emily in the morning. As for night time do you have a sitter?

Well -- He actually ended up coming home at 3:30am ---and this morning at 6:30 we had to call up my FIL and he took him back to the hospital. They did NOTHING for him the first time -- just gave him a double dosage nebulizer treatment (which he could have done ofr himself at home) and sent him home. When I was getting ready to leave for work this morning he was really bad and asked me to call his dad again so he could go back.

It really stinks that this is the day that my car is in the shop getting the brakes repaired.

I didn't go into work -- because the babysitter won't take EMily any earlier then 8am and I would have had to drop her off at 6:15 to get to work on time --- and I didn't have a car anyway to be going back and forth --- plus I wanted to be home in case I was needed up at the hospital since my FIL was supposed to be leaving on a golf trip today ----which I don't know what is going on with that now.

I called my principal, e-mailed her my lesson plans, and they will jsut call and tell my parents not to come to curriculum night. It's a weird thing in my school --- it's not mandatory -- but if we want to stay we get paid per session hours and the parent coordinator calls and invites the parents. It's just a basic meet and greet and you give them an overview of your class and how things will go --- but many teachers don't stay ----

if my parents complain I'll just set up individual appointments with them over the next few weeks to go over things with them.

Thanks for all of your guys. A lot of people don't realize how bad asthma can be --- especially for adults who still suffer from it badly. My DH is constantly getting people who act like he's making a big deal out of nothing for his asthma -- but his is really bad --- I just wish his pulminary docs and other docs could find a way to prevent these fall trips to the ER --- since it happens EVERY year --- but it's like the weather cools, he gets a cold, and his asthma gets bad along with it.

ETA: Just read your update. Glad your DH is home. Hopefully he will feel better. Everything will be OK.

The ER hears you have asthma & they let you wait forever. It has happened to me. I was once in the ER for like 5 hours when they FINALLY got the asthma Dr down I only had 30% breathing capacity. He was furious that they let me sit there in the waiting room.

Here's hoping that you DH feels better soon. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask.
