I'm a little sad about my baby shower.
First of all, I am so grateful to my mom and sister for telling me when it is because I have been starting to have anxiety over not knowing when it was going to be. However, they told me when it is, and I'm sad because SO many people cannot come JT's family, knowing when it was already, planned a family party for that day. So no one from his side of the family is coming And a few of my really good friends won't be coming. I'm just sad about that.

I am having the same type of problem too. After my mom passed away, I did not want the shower anymore but my dad and the rest of my family said that I should still have it because my mom had already started the planning process. So not only will my mom not be there but I found out yesterday that my sister's Dr is probably scheduling her c-section for the same day as my shower. So not only will my mom not be there but my sister either.

edited: too negative, your DH's family's reaction rubbed me the wrong way.
I am sure you will have a great day, your mom and sister sound like gems. Sorry about your friends, hopefully plans will change. I think an intimate gathering of loved ones maybe the perfect way to celebrate your baby on her way.

There's no rhyme or reason to JT's family. They're just weird. Plain and simple.
I know the shower itself will be wonderful, and I feel grateful that someone is having one for me at all, I just can't get past the fact that his family is having a bar-b-q that day and won't be coming.

Wow that truly stinks about his family Just remember that when baby comes and don't go out of your way for them.
A lot of cr@p surrounded my shower too and finally I said I don't give a fluck...the people who mean the most will be there...and don't worry about the others!

I will echo the other ladies that have said that the people who are most important to you will be there.
As for your in-laws, well what goes around comes around. That's what I always say. Just don't go running to anymore future party of theirs that's all. See how they like it.

I agree with you 100%. I would not go out of my way for them either.
When I had my baby shower. DH and My Brother hosted a BBQ at my mom's house and none of DH's brother's came. One had to work (he's a bartender and it's hard for him to change shifts, he really did try though) and the other brother had to take a "crucial" nap because he just came off some late shift at work. I understand that but sometimes you have to make a scrafice. Especially if it's for a brother who has gone out of his way to be there for your kids. You couldn't do him this one little favor and be there for him to celebrate???
We are no longer going out of our way for anyone. Once this baby is born, everything will be about our son. Everyone else can go scratch! If you are not going to be there for us then we can't be there for you. It's sad that it has to come to that but dammit sometimes people just don't give you a choice.

Can't your DH say something? Knowing mine, he would have flipped a lid with his "side", and made sure that the dates didn't coincide.

JT is not the "flip his lid" kind of person, and his response to all this was just, "TYPICAL." What can he really do? They obviously have their minds set on having this bar-b-q, so screw them. I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I thought about it all day and decided they s-ck and I don't even freaking care. He did say, though, that his sister is planning on coming to my shower, which is damn f-ing straight since I just hosted HER baby shower in February at my house. However, his mother never bothered getting intouch with my mom or my sister and never RSVPed, so f-ck her, too.
