Would You Be Mad?
im so pizzed off right now.
we are kinda in a financial lull right now. i mean, we get by just fine and all, but theres not as much extra spending $$ as we'd like....
anyway, SO i used MY rent money to buy DH his plane ticket to vegas. (i already had MY ticket $$ set aside) and so that meant that i was almost $300 short of this months rent. little by little i was putting money back into it......
anyway, so im STILL like $150 short....
WELL, i just was looking at our bank account online and found out two days after we bought the tickets he spent $50 on online poker.
god, im SO mad. so my $ i guess didnt really go to his ticket, it went to his stupid website.

i will somtimes borrow fomr the rent, and i alwys re-emburst it the next day.

Isn't it suppose to be both of your money? Why would you need to borrow your rent money from him? Don't you just share the expenses?
ETA: No, I probably wouldn't be mad. I completely understand where you are coming from and would be concerned over his lack of interest in our finances but I wouldn't be mad just like I wouldn't expect him to be mad if I bought myself a new pair of shoes.

its hard to explain. he pays a certain amount of the rent as do i. i keep mine in an envelope in my aprtment and then give it to him rent day.
NOW, youre right we do consider it "our" money. but im so mad right now im not! lol

but it just REALLY irks me that the $ i gave him to put in the bank (to cover the ticket cost) he went and spent on an online poker site!!!!!!!!!!!
it just doesnt make sense to me.
etA: im also mad at WHAT he spent it on! its nothing he can use. and he is going to lose it all. he can play poker online for FREE, no need to give that site money. if i did something like that i would never hear the end of it.

Yes, I would be mad. In fact, DH does not have any credit cards because of that reason. he does online gambling and I know that if he had a cc he would use it for gambling. It's bad enough he wastes money gambling on the weekends.

it was just borrowing it.
we're on the phone now fighting. he doesnt see my point.
then he LIED and said he won money when in fact i went online and saw he lost most of it. (wow, he has $4 left)
it just bothers me that we were supposed to go out last week to get something and we couldnt cause we didnt have the $ when we maybe would have had he not spent it on that.

well, he SAYS he wont do it anymore. i mean, he CAN do it for free. he says its more exciting since he can really win.
i said no, its bad and can be addictive. i told him "look, youre ALREADY always on there and youve already lost us money"
he said he did it at a really dumb time.
btrfly..... i know, but our money sit can go up and down week by week. (he gets paid biweekly so at the end of that we're "poor") and i get paid everyday so depends on how good i did that particular day.
but we used our income tax to pay for our trip (except the tickets obviously) so thats not a problem.
he says he honestly doesnt remember me paying ALL the ticket money .
i told him he's just stupid then!
im still really angry at him, but im hoping he will be true to his word and not do it after this.
*and im NOT giving him an extra on the rent, he is going to pay that himself. serves him right. eff that!

Jess- you and your DH need to have a talk about gambling- especially since you are going to Las Vegas.
What you descibed sounds to me like the start of someone who has a gambling addiction. He took necessary $ for gambling, lied to you about it and got mad at you for catching him. He finds it more fun to play poker when money is at stake, than when its free. Then he explains that he won't do it again because "he said he did it at a really dumb time." I am not saying that your DH has a gambling problem, but he does have some of the signs of one.
In Las Vegas, there is not much to do during the day but gamble. DH and I went there and I am not a big gambler, but after sitting by the pool and eating, there is really nothing else to do. I would suggest you have a talk about gambling and set a budget for how much you are going to spend gambling, as a couple.

I know what you mean, but there are certain I personally feel I can't borrow from. If you do it all the time, that's cool. I don't know if I would have the right to be mad at DH since you did use some of the rent money to buy him a ticket. IMO
