It's good that you are going even if he won't. Things may change and he may end up going eventually. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Marriage Counseling

I went for my first marriage. If you find a good therapist, it's helpful whether he goes or not. That being said, both of you have to want to work through this and need to go together. My ex didn't want to go, and I found out it was because he didn't want to fix things. I'm not saying this is your situation, but marriage counseling takes a couple, otherwise it's individual therapy (which might help you understand why you did what you did). He should go to understand why he reacted as he did. And you should go together to make sure all is out in the open and you can deal with the situation together.

Give him some time - he should come around. He just sounds hurt right now. Many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you.

Re: Marriage Counseling

I have to agree it is helpful whether he goes or not. I went to one session w/o FH and it was actually more illuminating than the together session. She said she does individual and couple sessions because she often finds out that one member of the couple is more commited to working it out than the other and she gets more info that way. She gave me a suggestion at my indiv session and I was like "why didn't I think of that?" And it was a suggestion that really worked.

I hope it works out for you Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Marriage Counseling

We haven't, but have talked about it. I think it's probably a good idea to have a "neutral" type person to listen to what problems you might be going through. We have been talking ALOT about some issues we both have with each other and, while it's helping, I still think we might consider talking to someone eventually.

Sorry you are going through a rough time Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Marriage Counseling

DH and I have been going. Sometimes we go together and sometimes it's individual. I find it very helpful to have that outsider's perspective. The joint sessions are good b/c we are forced to talk about issues we just seem to avoid in everyday life.

I hope your individual session is good but I also hope your husband comes around.

Same situation here...I love my DH ridiculously, but sometimes, more now with the baby, we just don't get along. He is like an obnoxious child and I am his b&tchy wife...it's definitely both of us...

it's finding the time, I guess...
