Just thought I would share.....why I am running the marathon!
Below is the letter I sent to my friends and family. Just wanted to share my story with LIFamilies friends

Hello Everyone,
As many of you know, I have decided to take on the challenge of running the NYC Marathon this year, and I wanted to share with you the story behind my endeavor.
One early Monday morning in August 2000 - my life forever changed. It was the day I received the call that my father had a massive stroke. My father fought for a few days, and then lost the battle. From that day forward the wheels of my life turned and life as I knew it was never the same. My father was not only someone I looked up to in times of joy and sadness, he was also my best friend, a person I respected, loved, and admired. He was a pillar of love not only to me but to his family and everyone he touched.
My father was a long distance running star who went to the University of Oklahoma on a track scholarship and eventually came to run the Boston Marathon. He never did get to run the NYC Marathon, something he always dreamed of doing. Unfortunately my dad never saw me run, we never had the opportunity to share this passion, for I didn't start running until a year after he passed. I started running in 2001, of course for fitness reasons, but also as a way to connect with him. Running is our time together, he has helped me get to the point I am today and I believe he will be there with me November 5th!
So, as a tribute to my father Allan X, I am running the 26.2 miles on November 5th. He never did cross that finish line...so I plan on doing it for the both of us. I am also running for another reason, a cause I believe in deeply and have experienced first hand. Many years ago I taught 3rd grade in a NYC public school, a school where physical education/gym class was not heard of. Being an active person, my heart immediately went out to "my kids", kids who needed to run around, kids who were struggling with health and obesity issues.
With the support of "Team for Kids" in NY I am out to raise a minimum of $2500 and contribute to the on-going fight against childhood obesity and create nationwide physical programs for kids in schools that need it the most.
So I am asking that you take a moment and consider supporting me by making a financial contribution to this cause. By making a contribution to "Team for Kids", you will directly contribute to helping make kids lives better.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my story, consider my request, and allow me the chance to help others and honor my father's memory this November in the NY Marathon.

What a wonderful letter - Good for you for running the marathon - it's an AMAZING accomplishment!!!!!!!
I live in Long Island City and the route goes right along Vernon Boulevard, through my neighborhood - we'll be there to cheer you on!
Do you have a time that you are aiming for?
