I would have a block on everything! And the sad part is our children will be WAY beyond us on how they know the computer.
If my kid can ever find away "around me" and the restrictions I can put on a PC... then he deserves to look at all the porn he wants.

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
I gues not when they are young, but once they get to high school, and they have reports and research to do, I don't know. My sister brother, and I each have and had a computer in our rooms once we went to high school, but we were the lucky ones. And my parents have no idea about how the internet works. I have seen my sister's friends go online and make dates with guys and claim they were 18 when they were 14. So, I hope when I have kids I have an answer. But, seeing how the world is getting more disgusting and perverted as time passes, I believe my answer will be no.

I am a mommie to be and I will be in the mean mommies club too. No computer, web cam or phone in my kids room. Things are so much different now then when I was a teenager and that was not too long ago.

No. DH won't allow a TV in their rooms either. Feels that it breaksdown the family, etc. To some extent I agree with him. I'd ask him more about it but right now he's downstairs on the computer, probably searching for porn.

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
DH and I had this conversation after the original Dateline show aired a few months ago and we agreed there is no way our child will have a computer in their room. They will onlt be able to use a computer in a public room in the house (like kitchen or living room). There are a few reasons for this: - we can monitor the sites by seeing what they are doing - preventing (hopefully) them from chatting with inappropriate people - making sure they are doing homework and not surfing the web - I want my kids to be active. Not just sitting in front of a computer or TV all day
There are a ton more reasons but these really hit the high points.
Heck, I know how much time I spend here! I can only imagine in a few years how it will be for a kid!

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
If I could afford that, which I probably never would be able to ...then yes I would, because I plan to be a responsible parent and monitor the usage, set up parental blocks etc....
If it still happened, well it would happen then in my opinion no matter where the PC was.
Bad things happen and I think you have to give your kids a little space yet its ultimately the parents responsiblity to know whats going on and monitor it till a certain age...

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
If you asked me a week ago, I probably would have been undecided. But last week my stepson was in our room using the computer to take a test for school. We left him alone to give him quiet while taking his test. When he finished, I came in to go on the computer. When I clicked on the address bar I saw he visited several sites including my space. Now I have nothing against my space for adults, but for the past few weeks I have been hearing so much about child abductions and such, older men chatting with young kids on there and trying to meet up with them on the news and it freaked me out. So when I spoke with DH we agreed that from now on, if he needs the computer, I will either be in the room or turn on the block. So thanks to all the sickos and wackos in the wonderful world of cyberspace, my children will not have one in their room. The parent blocks mean nothing to me either, kids are smart and I am sure will figure out a way around it soon, if they didn't already. So to answer the question, No, my kids will not have a computer in their room, it will be in a family room or other open area where they can be checked up on.

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
Here is a question to all the girls that say no PC in their room.
Me personally... I would love to have my son/daughter get their feet wet with the computer at an early age.
What if somebody (a computer genius) was able to lock down the PC completely... where there is no chance in hell that they could do anything on their PC other than go to specific websites you designate... filter all emails that come in... and only run certain programs on the PC.
Cause believe me... I can lock down a computer so somebody cant do JACK except for what I designate. You could try to hack the PC to get around my lockouts... but believe me you won't have much luck in doing so.
I do this at work for the employees that feel they need to 'F' their computer up on a repeated basis. These people can't install anything. Can't browse the web. Can't do anything except for company business.
They haven't cracked me yet.

Re: Will you/do you allow a computer in your childs room?
No! My brother and sister have computers in their rooms - biggest mistake ever. My sister went from all A's/B's to barely passing ever since that machine went in her room.
And my brother is on all the time too. He's 17 - I don't even want to know
So, after observing this, my kids will not have one in their room.

No we will not. We discussed this before we had children. No computer and no TV. Both will always be out in the open.

Sorry...this made me laugh. All I can picture is Jimmy Fallon as the tech guy on SNL "You have to download the drivers and reconfigure the software so you can manipulate the DNS....MOVE!!!....You're welcome" Again, sorry, am I the only one that remembers this skit?
