My Poor Baby Boy! Need Hugs...
When Jacob was born he did not let out a really good cry so the ped brought in an ENT Dr to see him in the hospital. The ENT went up his nose and down his throat with a camera and said he did not see any "LUMPS, MASSES OR TUMORS" (Thank God) but that he could not see below the vocal cords only above them. He wanted to see him back for a check up 2 weeks after being born. So then the gas issue came about and Jacob was suffering so much. But I noticed that when he drinks from the bottle he does not breathe thru his nose, he breathes thru his mouth and then he started to wheeze, choke, gag, and scream while feeding. So i went back to the ENT and he watched me feed him and said it wansnt normal for him to breathe thru his mouth. He referred me to a pediatric ENT. I went to that Dr yesterday and he went down his throat with a lighted tube and said that there is an obstruction which is causing all the gagging, choking and weezing. And which is causing him to swallow air which is causing the gas.My poor baby was hardly sleeping at night. The other night he was up from midnight to 8 am sleeping for 45 min here and there. It was horrible. He also told me he has G.E.R.D and dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and stridor. Now he has to have a procedure done in the hospital where they put him under anesthesia for a few minutes, not long, to go further down his throat to look beneath the vocal cords. He said sometimes there may be a cyst there and that can be what is causing the blockage. Otherwise if there is nothing there, the reason for the obstruction is called Laryngomalacia which just means that the cartilage in the larynx is not stiff enough yet and it is collapsing upon inspiration. He said with time the cartilage will grow stronger and stiffer and by his first bday it should be gone for good. So now i also have to thicken his formula with a powder that they sell over the counter to make it easier on his throat on the way down. The Dr also upped his Zantac dose and now I also have to take him to a GI doctor.
 My poor baby, i feel so bad for him, and I am so tired from him being so uncomfortable and never sleeping. Although last nite was the first nite on the thicker formula and he slept better than he has since birth. I actually got 4 hrs of sleep last nite. I just hope everything works out and he can get some relief. Thanks for listening.....

I hope the medication and thickening help. I know how hard it is to suffer with a newborn with GERD.
I hope they can help him be comfortable.

Oh your poor little baby!! How sad for both of you. You must be suffering right along with him. It almost sounds like he will be better off if they find a cyst below the vocal cords that can be removed to alleviate the problem right away. I hope he starts feeling better soon.

What a great mom to have trusted your instincts and followed up! I'm glad they've figured out what the possible scenarios are & what the solutions can be.
