Which hospital did you or are giving birth in?

my gyno is with NY Methodist Hospital in Park Slope, Brooklyn. my hub and i went in for a tour and instantly unimpressed. we were bummed because we really do like the area and it's right next to barnes & noble. i mean how great is that?? but ugh! that hospital was just so ghetto. i've only seen my gyno once so far so it's not a big deal that i change doctors. i'm looking into Lenox Hill. Has anyone ever given birth there or know of its reputation and etx? Is there a hospital you could recommend that's either in Manhattan, Brooklyn and possibly Long Island? that would be so great! thank you!

I gave birth at Huntington Hosptial in LI.

eta. I know someone who gave birth at Lenox Hill & thought they were wonderful.

My ob/gyn is with Good Samaritan in West Islip, so thats where I'll be when the time comes.

I;d go with North Shore, LIJ, or NY presbyterian.

thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone for your responses! i really do appreciate it and i'm glad all your experiences well very well. all this information is definitely very helpful. my hub and i have a lot of 'interviewing' to go through in the next few months or so. thank you for helping us on our way!

I gave birth to my son in LIJ..no complaints. Actually I had an above average experience because one of my nurses was my BIL's first cousin..a little hook-up can go a long way.
Right now we're TTC & I definetly want to give birth at North Shore this time..I've been there a few times for other reasons last couple of yrs,very competant staff,clean environment & if nothing else... the dessert cart they wheel around to the parents! Yummmmmmm.

& if theres no friggin' dessert cart...my sister lied to me twice!

I always thought it was too good to be true & it was something my sis & BIL came up with to make us all jealous. Guess there is a dessert cart.. & thats a serious thing 'cause I don't take my excess calorie intake lightly

You guys know I'm only kidding,right? The standard of care at the hospital is first & formost. Any mom can tell you that after the trauma of giving birth and all the overwhelming feelings physically & emotionally.. you can give a ratz a$$ if Emeril himself is cooking in the cafeteria!

I gave birth at LIJ, since I needed to give birth at a hospital that had a pediatric cardiolgist on staff at all times.

I gave birth at Winthrop. The labor and delivery nurse was wondeful, the food was great and they have a great NICU.

I gave birth to my 1st @ LIJ and my experience was so-so (my hookup wasn't that great, I suppose ). I had my 2nd @ NSUH Manhasset and it was a much better experience, although I never knew anything about a dessert cart?!

My sister had her 2 at Beth Israel in Manhattan and was very happy there.

I have had 2 births at north shore manhasset and will be going there in 9 months again.
Always love the care they give me there..

Never have seen a dessert tray though..

thank you everyone for submitting your hospital and two cents! hub and i are really grateful for it! we will begin to schdule tours and appointments with the doctors once our agenda's freed up. thank you, thank you, thank you all so much!

With my first I gave birth in Stonybrook, I was VERY upset with them! I had to file a formal complaint about one of the nurses. FM if you want to know why. 2nd time was is NSUH (FH works there) and it was GREAT!

I have never given birth, but I did rotations at 3 hospitals on LI for nursing school (one for LPN and one for RN school). I spent a few days during RN school observing at NSUH at Manhasset, and I though they had a great OB department. Many of the nurses have been there for many years (like 10 or more) which says a lot, they were all very nice and helpful, as well as the place being well organized. In addition to that, I have spent some time in the nursery and NICU there, and again, I thought the nurses and department were great, no complaints at all. I did my LPN rotation at NS @ Plainview, and again I had a great experience. I thought the department was organized, the nurses and doctors were very nice, I would consider either one of these places. I would also like to add that although I have never rotated through Winthrop's L+D, I have heard nothing but great things about that place, both from staff and patients. On a last note, I did my official OB rotation for RN school at Mid-Island hospital. If that were me, I would rather give birth on the street. FM me for more details if you would like.
