I think it depends on the dress.
I've had one dress shortened and since it was a two piece, I wore the top with a black skirt once. Then I wore the whole outfit as a short dress.
There was another dress that was the same color but because it was a very shiney, thick satin material, I didn't feel I looked good in it and never wore it again.
I had a nice sage raw silk BM dress that again, I shortened and removed the big white bow that I had to wear with it.
I never thought that my girls would wear my dress, but one just told me she shortened it and wore it to a wedding.
On a side note, I went to a wedding once and I wore my "work" clothes to the church. When i got there, the girls were wearing the dress I was going to wear!!! Luckily, I brought a back-up dress to NJ that night...otherwise, I would have looked like a bridesmaid!

You can donate them to http://www.glassslipperproject.org/ This organization gives them to under privileged girls to wear to their proms, its a really sweet gesture.
what a great idea, i never heard of this! i have plenty of dresses that i could donate to them

I don't think I would ever wear any of my BM dresses again. One would make for a good halloween costume if I was dressing up as a debutante or a princess...but that's about it. Otherwise, they all scream BRIDESMAID!

I have. I wore a black A line strapless dress to my sisters. I had it hemmed to t-length and wore it to 2 other weddings.

The one I wore for my MOHs wedding was really pretty-but once again, I could not wear it again....so they all sit in my closet...I dont know what to do with them

ETA it was a fairly simple black dress...
what she said Colleen's BM cresses were gorgeous and I definetly knew I was wearing it again. I still will in the future. It wasn't a BM type dress in my opinion. Now other dresses I have from weddings I would NEVER take out of the closet

I was in a wedding in june and I plan on having my dress shortened to make it tea length or just below the knee. This way it looks a little different. Also it has a crinoline sewed into it I will have that taken out too.

Well let's see..the only two weddings I've been in were in 89 and 94 and both dresses were turquoise and tafetta so nope won't be wearing those..lol  i think i was the only one out of my group of friends who believed in the whole wedding thing and had them all get bridesmaid dresses..

I have a BM dress that is two piece. The top was a bordeux color and strapless. I wore it with black dress pants with heels and a blazer to a party once. Looked nice. Other than that I don't think I would wear the whole dress or any other BM dresses I have again.
