Totally random question - and very weird sorry!
So I noticed very recently that Molly has what looks like something black underneath her tush.
DH noticed it today too and said that it is her vagina. It kind of looks like it is swollen (although I have no clue what a puppies Vagina is supposed to look like)
It really looks abnormally large.
Is this right??? Should I bring her to the vet. She doesn't seem to be in pain.

possibly anal glands? My paretns have a little dog, park lhasa/part shih tzu, and thats what it was on her...on samll dogs they can get infected or swollen...
When my dog had an infection, she bled a little bit...
maybe some other people on these boards can help better

Thanks - I just got a good look at it - and the place where she normally pees from is now huge and black. It is totally swolen. I don't know what to do.

do u notice her scooting around at all?
I have seen some people post about the anal glands before...maybe try a search..or for immediate assistance, maybe cross post onto NFR..thats where most people seem to be

Yea - She has scooted in the past but she isn't now. I have never ever seen anything this dark on her before.

is Molly fixed? she is isnt she? i remember you having a bad experience.... cuz it sounds to me like she is going into heat!
the females vulva swells up when shes in heat and she bleeds alittle making it dark sometimes.

Thank god you are here. I am freaking out.
Not to be gross but can I send you the pics I just took of her.
We got her spayed and they screwed up and took out her kidney. The reason they said that happened was because the ovary broke into pieces. I am worried that they didn't get it all.

Ok - I just sent them. Let me know what you think. I pray that this is totally normal.
Yes - she did get spayed but when they opened her up the IDIOT surgeon SAYS that the ovary burst and that when she was going to get all of the pieces of the ovary she nicked the uretha - once that was done she HAD to take out her kidney.
I cannot put her under again and have her do another surgery --- there is noooo way.

ok, i dont want to scare you or anything, but ive never seen anything like this. the size just looks like shes in heat to me, but the color change ive never dealt with... and tinky is white, and hers has just gotten pink whilst in heat.
i think you better take her to the vet in the morning. i dont want to scare you, i just think its better to be on the safe side.
in hte mean time ill do some research though
btw, mollys spots are adorable

I know - I don't think this is good. I really don't. I am calling the vet first thing in the morning. I feel sooooo bad for her - I am praying that it's nothing.

im so sorry diana. ill keep little molly in my thoughts. please let me know how it goes at the vet. hopefully its nothing at all.
it may just be a reaction to something. new litter maybe??? i dont know hun, i hope she is ok though.

She's not acting weird at all which is a good sign. I just hung up with the vet and have a 10:50 appointment. I can't wait to get there and see what this is. Her new vet is in Franklin Square - A&A Vet. Alot of people have raved about them.
This happening really makes me want to sue the old vet. Does anyone know who I could contact to go about doing this. I am so upset for her. All I want is for them to pay for any vet care that is kidney related. I'm scared that down the road godforbid something may happen and I will kick myself for not taking any action.

Diana...OMG...I can't even imagine how you must feel. I'm glad you are taking Molly to the vet this morning. Please keep us updated. I will keep Molly in my thoughts so that it's nothing too serious.
I had Lulu spayed last week and Lulu doesn't even know the wound is there. She is not even licking it or noticed it. My husband and I are very happy with this vet. He's a little expensive but so worth it. He made sure he explained everything before we left the office and what we should expect or not. Lulu was her normal self next day running around like a lunatic lady(that's what I called her at times when she's all over the place) and eating, playing as usual. If you ever need this vet's information, please let me know. He's in the East Northport area though. And he has performed surgeries on my BIL's cat and they are doing fine.
Please keep us posted and I hope everything works out and it's nothing serious.

Hi Diana,
I did a little research and everything that came up in a google search relating to a swollen vulva has to do with the dog being in heat.
I did find one article that mentions the presence of discharge, but all relating to being in heat.
Good luck at the vet...I hope she's ok!
