Re: Shake a paw

OMG YES they are...my friend bought a puppy from there - when they picked him up they told my friends that he had kennel cough - but that he would be fine.

WELL after having the dog for two days - he didn't get better - they brought him to the vet and she looked him over and said he physical looks well - but that they need to bring in a stool sample so that they can rule out any parasites - she put him on antibiotics and sent him home. They brought in the stool sample and found two parasites. They put him on antibiotics for the parasites. He just kept gettingworse...by the fourth day they rushed him to the emergency room bc he wasn't breathing right. He was in ICU, he developed pneumonia, upper respitory infection, had Parvo...my friends were devestated...he passed away the fifth day they got him...Chat Icon

She researched where her puppy came from and found the so called "breeder" was from Missouri and that in FACT her puppy did come from a puppy mill - he was actually taken away from his mother at 4 weeks - was put into a crate with other puppies and transported via a truck from state to state for these puppy stores to come and pick out what they wanted...like they were a garmet of clothing - they told my friends that he was nine weeks - but the doctors at the hospital said "absolutely NOT". The doctors told my friend that she gave this puppy a chance by trying to help him get better - if they didn't get him he would have been dead five days ago... She started hearing stories about other dogs from there - and found out that there is a campaign to shut it down.

I LOVE animals - it breaks my heart when I see dogs tied up on leash and left outside all day with no one - PLEASE ifyou're going to get a dog go straight to the breeder or adopt...

Re: Shake a paw

They are from Puppy Mills. Most (and like 99%) of pet stores sell from Puppy mills.

AND? do you have a problem with that?
We did NOT return the 2nd dog because he was from Shake a Paw...we returned him bc we realized we were not ready to care for him...he needed tons of attention whereas Casey is more easy going and independent..

im just saying, you always act like you would never buy another dog at a pet shop after getting Casey, since you didnt realize it was a puppymill at the time......... but you DID know by the second time.
but whatever, its your perogative.

Maybe she didn't find out about the puppymill thing until after she bought the second dog?

I didn't quite understand the whole puppymill thing until recently....so thank you DJ....I would never do it again....but you make it seem like puppies from places like shake a paw are going to have 3 eyes and a green tongue....all I am saying is at the time we got Casey, I did not know any of this...and she has turned out fine.

Re: Shake a paw

Also, just wanted to say...my DH are huge animal lovers...and I will not go into any more pet stores because we are such suckers and it breaks our hearts...we just want to "save" them...that sheds some light on the topic...I don't know. Chat Icon

Re: Shake a paw

dj, if i wanted to waste my time i could find threads that would prove my point on your question... but i dont want to! lol

I dont think I (or anyone) makes it out that the dogs have three eyes, etc.
Plenty live healthy lives.......
but thats not the point.

Jes I understand that you love dogs (and so do I) but sometimes you go off the deep end.
