Yeaaaaa that is the way the world turns and the cookie crumbles. The best part of my job is wearing my jammies to work. I have been to interviews and had dh pull some strings and the errrr frumpy ( for lack of better terms) plain Jane would always beat me out. 
ohhh i thought the point was that the more attractive person got the job.

Yes, especially for job where there is customer/client interaction. I think people want attractive, put together people representing their company.

I worked for a law firm that did this. They hired a certain type of female. Although the creds have to be in place they always hired a certain type.
The head of the law firm would say after an interview that they guy graduated blah...this school and he's good looking to boot!
Not exactly PC!

I definitely feel this way.
I also just went on an interview and I feel that my "young" face got in the way. No matter my experience or talents, sometimes they can't get past that.

Well, being in HR, I have had exp in the advertising world where I witnessed people being selected for their "look" and how "cool" they were. You had to have a certain look and feel to work there. Sad but true.

Appearance has a lot to do with people getting hired. It's a proven fact.
I do think it's a shame because there are many people who are more qualified for the position.
I agree. It's sad but true.

Yes - at my current company we all fit a certain mold / look alike in the office. It was scary actually! 
Being nice looking can sometimes work against you. I have had VP's of companies smile at me and ask me if I need them to explain things again... And while smiling and politely saying, "no, I understand what you are saying"... I am really thinking, "um, buddy, I didn't graduate with a Master's with honors from my good looks".

Yes. I worked for a dr office in where girls were coming in for receptionist jobs and my manager told me to tell one girl the position was filled because of her weight. I wouldnt do it because of my morals but I think that it plays a role for sure in whether or not someone is hired.

Definately. It's the human brain...it's programmed to seek out the most "fit". "Most fit" according to the human brain=most attractive.
