I don't like seeing it...But I'd rather see them on leashes than running into traffic.

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
It strikes me as odd because I'm not used to seeing it. The few times I have seen it (usually at an amusement park or some other really high traffic area) I caught myself thinking "I would NEVER do that". But hey, I guess some people really need or want to leash their children for their own reasons.

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
When I was a toddler back in the early 70's, my mom had me in a harness-type thing that had straps in the back for her to hold.
I've seen kids w/a wrist band that was attached to a phone-cord type thing that the parent held on to.
To me, a leash implies something is around the child's neck...

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
i don't think its a bad idea for toddlers if they are not in a stroller. my mom did it with my sister.
and today, my coworker and i watched a little boy about 2 years old wander off towards the street while his nanny was zipping his sister's coat....my friend grabbed him just before he stepped into the street...so...not a bad idea.

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
The only reason why they don't use leashes is because we strap them into their strollers now.
I'm not a fan of it but whatever works for that mom to ensure the safety of her child - I'm all for it. I had Joseph run away to the parking lot at the beach once - I was lucky enough to grab him before he stepped off the sidewalk. It only takes one mistake like that to make you think differently about the leashed child.

Same here - also, I'm not thinking about something around a child's neck, I'm thinking more so about a harness or something around a wrist. When we think of all the tragedies and crimes that have happened because a child wandered off or a parent took their eyes off for one second...I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
If I had no choice but to go into a crowded situation with my kid, I would have something around his/her wrist for his or her own safety.
I have a bigger issue with big kids (like age 4) in strollers. I read an article about the connection between the fact that strollers are bigger to accomodate older kids and childhood obesity. And as someone who struggles with weight, I am not going to encourage my kid to sit in a stroller when he/she is able to walk, even if it slows me down.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it in instances like this.

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
I just remembered this- years ago I was with one of my friends and her nephew, who was about 4 at the time. We were in the mall and we saw a woman with a leash on her child. And my friends nephew pointed and said, "Look, a pet baby!"

Re: Spinoff to dogs on leashes...
I havent seen them in a long time but if the kid is wild or has a learning disorder it may be a good thing for them then. I personally dont like them but if you have to use it for the safety for the child and others then I guess its ok.

I don't like it - but if it is necessary - you have to do what you have to do
