if your son/daughter was getting married

in 5 months, would you have major ELECTIVE surgery?

that has a long recovery process. or would you wait until after the wedding? or would you have had it done a year in advance??

Possibly, depends on what it is and how badly I thought I needed it.

Probably not. Is this a MIL/FIL that wants cosmetic surgery to look better for the wedding?Chat Icon

my fmil is getting her stomach banded next month...a month before her girlfriends daughters wedding and 5 months before mine and her son's. i asked her why not wait and she said she doesn't like the way she looks in pictures.

no one is going to be looking at her anyway...she just wants to be the center of attention

Re: if your son/daughter was getting married

My mom had a tummy tuck done and it was 7 months prior to my wedding(in April). Her recovery has been great and if anything looks even more amazing in her dress.
Something she had to do for herself.

I dont know what "stomach banded" is but
maybe it is to look better and recovery shouldnt be to bad that it would cause her pain at ur wedding.

in her mind, she'll be eating in a month...but she has stomach problems to begin with so who knows.....my point is that she should wait or have had it done already..

It's a little close to wedding a month after the scheduled surgery but 5 months after should be no problem what so ever for your wedding.

i hear what you are saying, i'm just annoyed that she suddenly is deciding to do this right now...and yes, she has a weight problem but is tooo lazy to diet and/or exercise. she seems to think this is a quick fix; she has got another think coming

Wheeeewwww.... boy is someone having a Bridezilla moment!

Its none of your business what she does to her body,I would be supportive of her. I have experience with patients like these, you must be significantly overweight in order to have this type of surgery, plus other health factors go with it hand in hand..ex:hypertension,high BMI,diabetes, sleeping disorders, high risk for stroke,heartattack..I could go on & on.

Clearly.. YOU ARE THE BRIDE, ALL EYES WILL BE ON THE BRIDE for that day. No one will steal the show..but its just that, your wedding is only one day- your MIL is making a life change. In 5 months, she will be well on the road to recovery.

Flame away....

no flames, but please get a grip...you don't know my fmil and the kind of crap she pulls. if she didn't go back and forth so many times about this tuff, i would be supportive, but after the 9th or 10th time enough is enough. she is just lazy and has no idea that this is a major change in her lifestyle.

Except that in some cases, there are complications. If that were to occur, isn't there a possibility that she might not even make the wedding? That is what I would be concerned about.

To the original poster, I do know someone who had this surgery - all was smooth and within 5 months, all was fine and the person was back to their regular routine.

I didn't mean to come on so strong..& I'm not supporting her persay..just ppl that elect to take such drastic measures to "BETTER" their lives. Didn't she need to get a psych evaluation? I remember that was a requirement of all patients we processed...you can't be on the fence bout such a big thing. Either yes/no.

Plus,as a mom w/ a Chat Icon one day I'll be "The MIL" .. I'd be so hurt if my FDIL said.. no ones gonna notice me anyway

i just meant that as a bride (zilla) Chat Icon yes i am part of teh center of attention...people will see her, but hopefully pay more attention to me.

as far as the steps and what have you, i don't know what she went through. she just told me the date was booked. i don't talk to her about it. b/c it upsets me and she doesn't understand why and i can't explain why to her...
