I chose other. We're in the NYC metro area b/c of DH's job, which he can't do anywhere else, but we're on LI b/c we couldn't afford a house or co-op in the city. Pretty sad to say we're living on LI b/c it's more affordable.

DH and I were both raised here and we like it here. However, we both realize that it may not be where we buy a home.

I didn't grow up here, and don't want to raise children here (though we might end up staying). Coming from another area there is just such an emphasis on conspicuous consumption in so many towns on Long Island. I totally disagree with it and wouldn't want my children growing up believing that these material possessions dictate who they are. I didn't grow up in poor areas either--I grew up in one of the wealthiest towns in NJ and then went to boarding school in CT, but never have I seen what I saw moving here.

I LOVE it here, but DH has the itch to leave, but my familiy is the only ones and my good paying job is what is keeping me from moving.

We are ok here for now and both of us grew up here, but we also know that while our jobs are good for now and we are doing fine, we may end up somewhere else eventually. We do like living here and would miss some of the only in NY type things but when the time comes we may have to sacrifice it.

I said "other". I wouldn't say that I LOVE it, but I work in the city and I like coming home in the evening to my house, yard and our neighborhood. I do like it better than anywhere else I have lived so far.

If it wasn't so expensive and there were jobs in my field (field biology), I would probably love it. Although I would love to live someone warmer. I stay for DH

This is why Anthony doesnt want to raise kids in LI at all

I would love to move out of state but my husband has kids that live with their mom here, so there's no way he's going, and I can't leave my little Joe and Maddie (niece and nephew), right nrthshgrl?? (she's my SIL)

I just left this summer and am now living in N.C. and loving it! Long Island is not the same place I grew up in. It is overpriced, very overcrowded, and imo overrated. I have some friends and my parents are still there, but that is about the only thing I am missing.

We just moved to Chesapeake VA a month ago. I loved LI but it was getting to expensive to live. I am ok here so far but I totally underestimated how much I would miss my family and friends. I moved from Ireland when I was 18 & don't remember missing my family as much.

I've often wondered about this. In my opinion, I've noticed that material possessions have become so important in recent years. I grew up on LI, and with the exception of college, I have lived here my whole life. I don't have much else to compare it to, but I've wondered if this "materiality" is only here or everywhere these days.
