I don't think that the dad set Desmond up. Earlier in the episode when Desmond had a flashback, he said "how did you find me" to Pennelope. She said I have money and money means that I can find anyone.
I think that she used her $$ again to have people track down Desmond or his boat or something.
I CAN'T WAIT TILL NEXT SEASON NOW!!!

I'm pretty sure he's not Kate's father - but was in the army with him. And he was the one who got Sayid to torture his commrad when they had captured them.
I am sooo mad we have to wait so long to find out what happens to Kate, Jack & Sawyer. I think it looked like they have a plan though by the looks Kate and Jack exchanged.
And, so, are Locke & Mr. Echo dead? I was surprised that after Charlie came back and said "They're not back here?" that he didn't seem more concerned.

I am so LOST...I fell asleep the last 30 minutes...dh woke me up all freaked out and was trying to give me a recap. He said it was scary. Is there a website that summarizes the episode and makes hte connections for me?

There are 2 army guys form Sayid flashbacks. One is Kate's father, the other is Desmond's partner.

I think I agree with this, but somehow I think Penelope's father plays into this also . He has some role or there is some bigger connection as to why Penelope found out how to track Desmond
When her Dad talks to Desmond after he is released from prison, he mentions his last name was WIDMORE
According to my DH (a LOST FANATIC) and all his friends and postings on various Lost websites/chat forums - this name (Widmore) has been seen on different products around the island over the 2 seasons:
Widmore:
* Showed up on factory behind Charlie in his hometown flasback (last season)
* Showed up on Sun's pregnancy test kit
* Showed up on the balloon that crashed in jungle on island
Widmore must be somehow connected to Hanso or a subsidiary - either way, he's got a huge corporation behind him and this has GOT to play into things somehow

I was also surprised that it seemed like Henry is the leader of that pack.
What do you think is going to happen to Kate, Jack and Sawyer?
I'm not sure how to make it through the summer with all these unanswered questions!!!

Now that I think about it, what if Penelope's father is the financer of this whole Dharma project? I don't think that he purposely set up Desmond, but how else would the Penelope know about the magnetic field?
Any thoughts?

I also believe "Bad Twin", written by Gary Troupe (which, by the way, spells Purgatory when you switch the letters around-prob producers playin with us) is about Widmore corp and the family behind it. My hubby just bought me the book, which was written by a LOST character who died on the plane. Sawyer was reading the manuscript, remember? And annoying Jack threw the last few pages in the fire???

So of if desmonds hatchmate is sayids captor, and sayids captor was friends with kates dad, then that would explain why they want kate.
Also I have decided ( i know other probably figured it out before me and I dont own the idea)that the whole "island" is an experiment, just like in the movie "the Truman show". Thats why when Michael leaves "no one will find him". They are probably in some bubble underwater somewhere.
