Re: Do you find it hard to make new friends?

I find it quite easy to make new friends, the hard part is people not thinking I am a crazy psycho lady who talks and talk and talks with a strange accent....

When I moved here I knew pretty much no one, but I adopted the friends of friends and just met lots of people at work. Now with a baby, I found it super easy to make friends with babies! But I live in an area with lots to do with babies, there are playgroups at lots of different places pretty much every day, so it was easy!!

Re: Do you find it hard to make new friends?

Yes, unfortunately and it's become hard to keep the friends I already have, because I'm at such a different point in my life than they are. They're worried about graduating from college and here I am married with two kids. I need friends that are mothers, but it's SO hard to find somebody that's close to my age that has children.

ETA: I'm going to be 23 next month. I'm up for a Suffolk GTG!

OMG, I know I don't post much so nobody "knows" me here, but this post struck such a chord with me!!!

I'm 29, married w/ one baby, and I am literally the ONLY one of my friends who has kids. It's not like I'm a young mom, so I have no idea how it happened that I'm the only one. Also, I lived in Queens before I got married, and worked in Manhattan up till I had the baby, so all my friends are from Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan.

I miss my social life! I have 3 good girlfriends from college who all work in the city, and we all worked in the same field. We used to meet after work a lot, went to different fun little ethnic restaurants, or just met up for drinks and appetizers. It was so fun, kind of Sex-and-the-City-ish... well, minus the great clothes, interesting jobs and active sex lives Chat Icon Now I live on LI and am a SAHM, guess which one of us is left out now?

I'm fine with the whole meet-moms-at-Gymboree idea, but sometimes I really miss just getting together with some girls and chatting in a setting OTHER than a big group playdate. I guess I would just love an occasional "mom's night out" kind of thing, baby-free, lol!!! Does anyone else feel this way?

Sorry so long, I just REALLY needed to vent!

Whew! At least I am not alone! :)

I am basically on the boarder as well. (Farmingdale). I am a SAHM, so weekdays are better for me for a GTG. I know what you mean about Gymboree. I took my older son to Gymbo when he was a baby, and it seemed like I was in a class with all people who signed up together. We were the "outsiders". People were friendly enough, but definately were not open to having another mommy join their group. As I said, mommy cliques can be worse that high school!

Ok, I'm in... who wants to plan something?

I have a few ideas, but im not planning it till everyone agree on dates. Chat Icon
for indoors,(commack). my library has a mother goose time that does not require registration, they dont even check library cards, so thats an option
also the bookstores have weekly storytimes and also with music (the guy plays guitar and the kids sing along, last wed of the month.
another idea is chucke cheese, ive only recently in the past few years have first went to one because i didnt grow up near one, but Ive heard they can have a negative rep, beause some are filthy, crowded etc. the one here in commack, ESP on weekday mornings, is extremely clean, its all renovated in the past year, and if we get there early (opens at 9, any other morning people?Chat Icon ), we bring coffee and munchies and pass some fun time. theres usually a mommy morning crowd there, but "crowd" is like no more than 10 kids in the whole place and 4-6 moms. its perfect. 2 drive thrus right nearby (dunkin donuts and a deli) so you dont have to leave the car to get that coffee Chat Icon its perfect for rainy or freezing days.
we're always out and about with or without plans, sometimes spur of the moment... and you meet new mommy friends when you least expect it.
so those are my ideas. Chat Icon
and of course playgrounds on nice days.

Yes. Almost all of our friends have no kids. I feel pretty lonely sometimes.

Yes. I feel like I have a ton of acquaintances but not many real friends.

I feel the EXACT same way, Im really bad at taking this to the next level- like getting together when its not something already organized by someone else. I find it hard to call people.

We should have planned a Halloween Party for all the kiddies. It would have been so cute!

Re: Do you find it hard to make new friends?

Yes, making new friends is hard. (I'm so glad I'm not alone on this one!!!) I'm in a weird stage for meeting new people. Happily married but not TTC yet. I work for a very small company so there are few outets to make friends. Plus, all my girlfriends are single and want to go to bars, clubs, to meet guys. The last thing they want to hear about is my happy marriage and awesome DHChat Icon
